The popular Cigar Magazine in the states gave the Esplendidos a very high (94) rating awhile back. I've always liked them a lot but have not enjoyed one for some time. How are the Esplendidos smoking these days. Should I invest in a box or pass for something better?

'01 Esplendidos are spectacular and are one of the few cigars in my humidor that are reserved for special occasions. The '03s are coming around, but are not in the same league and will be smoked before the 01s. Truly, these cigars are wasted if smoked young, '01s are getting very expensive.

I've smoked a few, but never with much age. I enjoy them enough, but in this size, I'm more likely

to go for a Bolivar or Upmann Sir Winston - but that's just me.

Couldn't wait recently and cracked open a box from April '07; yes, I commited infanticide! Good cigars clearly exhibiting the classic Cohiba profile, but perhaps a little lighter than I would have liked. I have a little question as to whether these will have enough flavor to be considered classic Esplendidos in five + years. Nonetheless, I think they are worth the gamble.

I would put Sir Winstos (03/07) or BCG (06/07) ahead on my shopping list.
