Thanks Ken for the update. You'd never guess that with the way the maduros are being heavily discounted at vendors now.

I find this surprising, unless it is simply due to the initial desire to try these smokes.

I do not like the Maduro line. Personally, I think it reminds me of the best Artuo Fuente has to offer. It is good, but to me, tastes like high-end

Dominican.

Maybe this is what the Cubans need to compete with the DR? I do not like it personally.

Other's thoughts?

» Rob who?.........

Rob and Ken are probably drunk in a gutter somewhere (or worse).

On another retailers site, there are daily updates about the festival. They have internet access and update their blog.

Nothing much groundbreaking there, but on the day 3 review, there was an interesting mention of the 2008 EL Cuaba Piramides:

"Todays talk of town was the Cuaba Piramides Limited Edition 2008 which we expect due out this summer. The samples given to me had wrappers as dark a night below the stars in the Caribean. A bit lighter than 2006 LE Cohiba Piramides they smoked absolutely wonderful. Hints of dark chocolat and the sweetness I like so much. Test smoking cigars with only some weeks of age is a difficult story of its own as the prevalent tannins cover the taste with a certain bitterness. Anyhow, there is cigar in the pipeline that is not to be missed."

No photos? I remember the photos of the girls at the festival from, when was that? Was that two years back?

I think you mean no photos of the guys passed out or Cuban girls receiving gifts of appliances! :-P

we were far too busy to have any chance of stopping to post. we did not want to miss a single moment and it has been hard work all the way. also, internet at the national went down for a few days.

plenty of talk re the cuaba. rob and i got to a small champagne and cigar tasting where they showed the three new LE's for '08, the only time they have been shown. to be fair, i think it is the best cuaba i have ever tried but that is a bit like saying this ios the best sexually transmitted disease i have had, not that that is in any way an admission. i'm not a fan of cuaba but this was a good smoke. light, still a draw far too easy, a bit of spice but certainly a good smoke. the partagas D5 is a step up in richness but for me, still way too young {i do have notes on these but they are packed away at the moment and any rumours that i actually set fire to my notes during the tasting held at the national are almost certainly going to be exxagerated. you set one page alight during james suckling's talk and you never hear the end of it. still, that was better than the waiter at the most bizarre dinner ever held, the german and swiss night later that evening, who set our entire table on fire].

the monte sublimes was for me, the absolute star, daylight second. a stunning smoke. rumours are production is very small. best cigar of the trip bar those from hamlet [and didn't we make pigs of ourselves there]. some edmundos from skindiver next.

bernard, toby is a mate from 4 or 5 years ago and we go to his party {it was actually one he oprganised for david tang} every year. always a brilliant evening. as for the best party? we love it but we like to think it comes a close second to the final evening 'working bee' at one of our houses {it was to be at the house occupied by rob and the serial groom, des and i in the other but unfortunately, that was not possible and it was held at ours. i'll leave rob to explain why that was necessary and why the pool at that house needed industrial cleaners...}.

They always go off line during the festival..... I am sure it has something to do with too much Alcohol and trying to type ;-)

I am sure though Rob will be ready to fill everyone in with all the needed info when he gets back...
