OK, I just have to lower the tone here I guess.

Here's my shed ashtray found in a second hand shop and just right for the automotive themed environment of the shed. It has a HdM Petit Robusto for scale, not a big ashtray at all and it is a juggle to use it with say a Party 8-9-8 Varnish which hangs off both sides through the first third.

Next is a special one run up on a lathe by a great friend, (take a bow Ian). It is made of Australian native hardwood called ironbark. It seems as tough as concrete and I knew I had to pay for Ian's cutting tools after spinning this baby up. To the uninitiated cigar smoker it looks crazy to have a timber ashtray, it's going to get scorched right? but I have been careful and not (so far) got a mark on it. For its own safety it gets put in the cupboard on new years eve for instance.:-D

Maybe down the track I will 'enhance' it somehow with some extra details. Have to be careful though as it surely is a one-off. I think it at least needs some piano gloss level of varnish, maybe the bowl dished deeper, perhaps brass sections added on the cigar rests, we'll see.

There have been pics of some very nice ashtrays in recent (and past) reviews - any faves?

Though I don't use it all that often, here's mine:

That turntable rocks Jay!

You've inspired me to post.

This one's a Green Sea Snail Shell with sterling silver legs and cigar rest. Real tacky, but I love it.

This one is my favourite. The great Aussie Ashtray. Even better, now, if you hit someone with your thong they'll go down and stay down!

prez or anyone happen to know why my pic's in this thread (as well as some others peoples) aren't showing up anymore?

one of my posts above i had two images entered. i even went in and checked to make sure the codes were all correct, which they are. i even went into this last post above here and the pic's that are showing are coded the same exact way ( [/img] ), but mine won't show?

any clue as to why this is happening?

Hi Jay. Were they linked to a photobucket of some sort? If that is the case they won't shouw up. If they were uploaded to the old site then they should show up. Let me know and I will have Jason investigate once he returns Tuesday.

Jay I think what Rob means is that any images linked from a host site to the original forum did not transfer to the new forum.

Images that had been uploaded directly to the original forum came across with no problems. Maytag's post was made to the new

forum, so there should be no problem there either. I guess you would have to re-link your photobucket images.

One thing that I noticed that people did on another forum was to copy and past the link with the IMG tags into the space provided when they hit the Insert picture button... When you hit the Insert Picture button, make sure that you copy and paste the "Direct Link" selection from photobucket...

HTH!

Just picked this one up for almost nothing on tradera (e-bay)...

2,5 kilos of crystal glass. Its a killer!!

Apparently the guy who made this also made glass-sculptures for Richard Nixon and the astronauts on Apollo XI
