Ken Gargett Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 rob was querying a box number which listed the year in full - i have lost your original note and photo, rob, so perhaps you might want to post here to provide an example? i've only ever seen digit year references, such as 'Feb 05', and not 'Feb 2005'. we checked with havana and this is the reply from a friend there. Ken I traced the info early this morning. They say are genuine boxes. Some factories are stamping the factory code with four digits. I've heard from Tabacuba that a factory in Villa Clara is using the four digits but nothing official is released about that specific subject. It's strange we have not been informed about that because as of today I have not heard anything about changing or adding more digits. ???? Maybe some slip at the factory may have occurred. You know, Tabacuba Business Group is the owner of the factories and all the directives comes from them. I called them today again and they weren’t completely aware of the “slip” but at this moment they assure me those are genuine boxes.
dragon Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Yes, once someone told me they saw the 4-digit boxes at an official LCDH in Germany, I assumed they were genuine and just an anomoly.
El Presidente Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 We received an official response from Habanos Wednesday confirming that they are legitimate. Habanos s.a has also requested that if our FOH members have any concerns regarding aurhenticity, they can forward to me (and I will forward through Nestor Valera) : 1. Photo's of the concern. 2. Photo of Box code 3. Details of Vendor from who product was purchased (where, when). 4. Your specific concern in writing. ****Please note that they are not interested in stock purchased from non authorised Habanos s.a. vendors. This would open floodgates.****
cvm4 Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 Interesting info. gents ;-) I've seen "2005" listed on an excel spreadsheet from another vendor. I assumed it was just a slip up, guess not.
CigarZen Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 Rob/Ken -- thank very much for the tip. ... I do, though, wish there was more consistency on such packaging matters.
TR Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 » Rob/Ken -- thank very much for the tip. » » ... I do, though, wish there was more consistency on such packaging » matters. So do I. But you can't smoke a box code....so it is low on the worry list.....:-D
Elric Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 I've seen 3 digit dates ie "005" for 2005 from trusted vendors.
shrink Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 » You learn something everyday.... Yep, thanks for the heads up. These tidbits are helpful to all of us.
strayvector Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 I was at the duty free shop in Heathrow last week and was looking over their selection of smokes and I came across a box with the 4 digit code. If I remember correctly it was a box of Choix Supremes.
wasch_24 Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 Boy, stuff like this sure does make it hard to spot counterfeits.
tmos Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 Well, I have a vendor who sent me Demy Tassy's, so what's the big deal about a 4 digit code? It's all good!;-)
harwellplant Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 » Well, I have a vendor who sent me Demy Tassy's, so what's the big deal » about a 4 digit code? It's all good!;-) that is so wrong. lmao.
thschrminm Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 I have also seen the 005 boxcode... Smokes were spot on so the boxcode question for me was a mistake on the part of the stamper at the factory... Those mojitos and masas de cerdo can be intoxicating...
Passingwinds Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 I like to plan ahead. I've already switched to 5 digits for the year.
Ginseng Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Great information. The more knowledge we have, the greater our power to discern fakes.
Cartierusm Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I've had a few boxes with 4 digit years. They were from legit dealers and were right on, but first one I got I did give pause.
skid11 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Great info Ken / Rob, I agree with wasch_24, Habanos s.a seem to be adding to the confusion.................. that's cuba I guess.
Mel Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I have recieved boxes from Czars with four digit codes. El prez. better say they are for real.;-)
stogies&hoagies Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 » confusing is right yeah, but a handy piece of information....thanks.
