Hi There,

I am new to FOH this week. I like having a place to chat smokes.

So I did not see a "what are you smoking right now" topic, and I am loving my current smoke, so I decided to start one:

I am smoking an aged (1996) Sancha Panza Sanchos (Grand Corona). It started out good and got better and better. Now with two inches left, I can't put the thing down! It has gotten strong, bold and is demanding my attention.

I love cigars...

Well seeing as most of you must be out partying or something, I will respond to myself. I can make plenty of fun on my own... :-)

I am now smoking a Rafael Gonzalez Lonsdale I bought in 1996. That seems to be the year I am smoking today.

I have not had one of these in years. It is amazing how powerful it still is. It is still going to get better at some point, I think. That being said, it is a Rafael Gonzalez. It never was amazingly strong. I prefer a larger ring gauge smokes, but this is not unenjoyable. I would call it a good morning cigar.

It was probably the wrong smoke to follow up a Sanchos...

Well not smoking currently, but I had a boli corona junior for breakfast this morning - wonderful rich tobacco with some fresh black coffee and pepper thrown in for good measure. A great cigar to break my recent drought.

After lunch, a Cohiba Siglo II from Oct 06...very nice smoke, have a box I bought on Czar in Sept. Good aged leather & coffee, just a hint of sour 2/3 down, may benefit from a couple days of dry-boxing next time. Up in cold country, gotta smoke the shorter sticks this time of year!

Just finished a H.Upmann Magnum 50. I realy like this cigar,still has

a young spicey touch to it.I am realy fond of the super robusto size

one of my favorites to bad there are not more brands that make

this format as a regular production.

I get the feeling everyone needs to pick up the pace. You know those cigars sitting over there in your humidor? They ain't going to smoke themselves...

I had a Paratags Serie D No.4 from 1996 earlier between my last post and this one. It was delightful. I think the newer ones coming out right now may be better, but these are damn good too! I love properly aged cigars.

One that is great right out of the box now is the Cohiba Piramides EL 2006. It smells of leather and chocolate prior to lighting - it says smoke me now! So every time I open that box, I do. They taste spectacular, but clearly are something I am marking for aging. They may not make it, but I think these cigars have the potential to stand the test of time. I have not had one of those today... Maybe later.

Right now, I decided to break out of the 1990's and am starting a Ramone Allones Belicosos - Produced late 2006. It is little young, but the blend is very nice and balanced. It seems strong or harsh at first in a way, that covers the flavor. I think these will be really stunning soon; maybe in s few months, probably a little longer. The harshness is subsiding as I am getting into it.

A great smoke. I think these were a UK Regional Release (for 2006 - w/o RE bands), but the plan is to go to wide production availability with them now, if I remember correctly.

Are they already available in Australia?

Cheers,

Peter

Maybe this was not a popular idea for a topic - no problem.

But just for etiquette's sake, right now, I am smoking a Monte No. 2 I bought in 1996. I went back to 1996 as I realized I have a lot of boxes from that year for some reason. This cigar was a let down. The wrapper while colorado shade, had green spots on it which was not attractive. As soon as I cut it, something felt wrong. It was not rolled awfully, but it is a little soft and light on the fill at the head. A little mushy. Further - the flavor is a little lacking. Just not quite on. There is an unpleasant flavor there as I am getting past the halfway point which is telling me to put it down and let it go.

They can't all be winners...

Just finished a 98 Punch DC. Nice full bodied cigar with woody overtones. I've only smoked 2 of these before from my own 05 box & they were very tannic. Looks like a little more time will serve them well.

I really like Punch DC's and Churchills with a good decade of age on them. They get a certain "twang" to the flavor, I do not how else to describe - but I like it...

I am having a Rafael Gonzalez Lonsdale - 1996. Nice morning smoke with Espresso.

Funny, I was re-reading the topic. I was smoking the same cigar the other day and I said the same thing, almost...

I had a Trini Reyes this morning with a cup of Kona coffee. Now I'm smoking a Partagas Short. They're both great.

Don,

Can you post some pics of your collection? It sounds quite extensive and I would really enjoy seeing some pics.

I also would love to see some pics of the Czar House.

Hmmm, I guess so. Right now, my humidor is a mess. Pictures would almost be useless. I am working on creating more space.

I will see what I can easily take out and post photos of. I will post one of the mess, so you understand. I have been fighting to stuff everything in and keep decent air circulation lately.

One thing that is not so photo worthy. Lots of my cigars were bought in the past from retailers who would not send cigars with bands on, or boxes. I do have plenty of fully dressed beauties to show as well, though too. I try to get most of the more rare stuff intact.
