KB24 Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 So I received the email this morning letting me know that it had been shipped and should be here by Friday. I am very excited but a little concerned. I had ordered brown mahogany and then realized that maybe I wanted something a little darker and so I called Bob and he told me that the staining process was the last step and that he would send me some wood samples to choose from. Well, I never received the samples so I am unsure if he went ahead and darkened it up for me or if he just forgot and stuck with the normal brown mahogany. Anyhow, I am sure it will be fine and I couldn't be more excited. On a side note, right after I got the email I went to my cigars and told them that proper temp and rH were on there way and I got a standing ovation. -Patrick Pictures to follow Friday evening as the entire next weekend will be planned around the preperation and set up.
Sandman Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Fantastic! My cigars wish they were your cigars now.:-) Enjoy that new humi!!!

Claudius Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 » Well, I never received the samples so I am unsure » if he went ahead and darkened it up for me or if he just forgot and stuck » with the normal brown mahogany. I bet he forgot. Maybe he even got it the wrong way around and you get maple! ;-) :-D
anacostiakat Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Cant wait to see the pics! As Emeril says, those cigars will be gettin' happy! :-D I would have a double sawbuck ready for the delivery guy if you need help getting it inside and situated. ;-)

I really wish I could afford one of those temp/humi controlled beauties. I could possible stretch to buy one but shipping. even if possible, would make the cost prohibitive. Mel39
Claudius Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 » I could possible stretch to buy one but shipping. even if possible, would » make the cost prohibitive. » » Mel39 I read somewhere of a guy in the UK getting one shipped to the UK for 150 USD. Not sure how he good such a good deal, but it might be worth asking Bob if reasonable shipping rates are available.
Professor Twain Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 » So what thinkest you guys? Should work fine IF you can crank the temperature setting up to about 65 degrees F, some fridges and coolers are not really designed to maintain at that high of a temperature. With lower temperatures, it is close to impossible to retain humidity where you want it. No need for cedar lining, etc., your cabinets will do the job. A few thin cedar shelves to replace the metal ones would probably be good but not essential.

I think I will go with this then, first having checked out temperature ranges. In a year or two, I will be enquiring about turning my living room into a walk in humi:-D The last four months or so have been an amazing experience; learning so much from you and other knowledgable members. I knew nothing of ageing, temperature and humidity or the different character inherent in the various marcas. To think, I once thought King Edwards were a fine cigar! My immature palate is still not able to distinguish the different tastes but I am slowly learning the cigars I enjoy most. The problem is that the ones you like best are the ones you like to hang on to. Therein lies the conundrum. Mel39
KB24 Posted October 17, 2007 Author Posted October 17, 2007 I just spoke with the delivery guy and it will be in my apartment between 9am-5pm tomorrow. Apparently I need to plug it in and let them temp get to the pre-set temp and then the next day add the water to the humi device and let the rH level out and then add the sticks. Does anyone have the steps that it took to get their Aristocrats ready? Thanks!

Yes, PATIENCE is key. I know I wanted to stuff all my boxes in as soon as I got the damn thing, but you have to let the cabinet acclimate. It takes a few days just for the temp in the wood to come down...remember, it was on a freight truck for a week. Once it comes to temp, fill the humidifiers up and let it get to desired rh...this will take a day or 2. Mine was ready to go on the 4th day. Post some pics when you git 'er filled! Congrats.
Tampa1257 Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 PATIENCE Grasshopper.......... Bob will have easy to understand, easy to perform instructions included with your new humidor. Follow his instructions to the letter, do not second guess him, he has built 1000's of these cabinet humidors and each bear his signature. It is a functional work of art. You will soon be enjoying your Aristocrat and your cigars will be stored in perfect condition! An Aristocrat Humidor is a lifetime investment. A true Heirloom quality Humidor that your kids will fight over who gets it after you are pushin up daisies!:-D
El Presidente Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 » I hope I can sleep tonight:sleeping: Bob needs to convert 20 and 40 ft shipping containers that we can put in our back yard and use as a humidor, office and lounge. A porch out the side for parties would be great to ;-)

wp2 Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 » You realize this won't be worth a damn without pictures? I agree 100%.
KB24 Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 It has arrived and is already out of the box and wrapper waiting to be set up. My plan is to leave work soon and get everything going and take many pictures. I will post a new thread later with all the pics. -Patrick
KB24 Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 So I am not quite ready to post pictures yet but can anyone who had an Aristocrat tell me that when the plugged it in for the fist time to begin cooling everything down, was it very very loud or do we have a problem with mine? Any help please soon. -Patrick
justinphilly Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 my cooler makes a little noise, but its just the sound of two little fans running.. i wouldnt call it very loud, or even loud at all.

Mel39 Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 » I read somewhere of a guy in the UK getting one shipped to the UK for 150 » USD. Not sure how he good such a good deal, but it might be worth asking » Bob if reasonable shipping rates are available. Might do that and thanks Claudi. Have also been toying with another idea and wondered what people think. I'm one of those idiot newbies, who, when first starting out on the long road to learning the Habanos way, bought a desktop humi. I soon discovered that this was too small so bought a larger one. My stash soon outgrew that and now temperature was a problem so converted a cooler and guess what? Yep needed a larger cooler, so now I have one on top of another. I then visited Cuba and bought another 200 sticks plus I couldn't let a couple of C-Cs daily bargains pass me by and so what now??? I saw one member here that had a mate who installed cooler cabinets in stores and had one fitted in his home, which looked quite "cool"! So I've been thinking along similar lines and have been looking at these things: This particular model is quite cheap: Bottle Coolers BAR 1 Bottle Coolers Economical commercial bottle / beer cooler Capacity130 x 175ml bottles. H = 900MM, W = 600MM, D = 500 MM FREE DELIVERY IN UK Price: £275.95 (Exc. VAT at 17.5%) I would have to line it with Spanish Cedar and do have some planks and also now know a UK supplier of this lumber. So what thinkest you guys? I live alone and have no partner to nag me about cluttering up the living room or kitchen. Apologies for hi-jacking this thread. Mel39
