I had a spirited discussion with a fellow FOHer over relative terms of strength. By Strength I am referring to sheer intensity of body on the palate. I am not talking about complexity but rather terms such as "weight" and "Bite."

What is your submission for the strongest cigar you have experienced in 2007? Name and month code (or year) would be helpfull.

Off the top of my head, I think I'd have to go with the Cohiba Pirámide EL ROA OCT 06.

I think it fits the bill of "sheer intensity of body on the palate" perfectly, though I did

not find it to be strong in the way of turning one's stomach.

Next up, there was one particular RA 898V from an '02 box that was very full bodied

and had a creeping kick of strength, requiring extra care in taking my time.

Lastly, an '05 PLPC was very dark and brooding.

No contest. RyJ Cazadores TGR DIC05. Strong but so rich. Cannot wait to see how these develop over the years. A distant second place goes to a RASS from 06.

I have heard from many that the RYJ Caxadore is the strongest Cuban Cigat their is. At best would say medium body cigar, but a very flavorful one also.

Partagas Series D #1 EL would be the boldest I have had this year. Sorry , but code is a bit scratched up and not readable.

Surprisingly enough, a Cohiba Esplendido from PFY June '05! Smoked it a couple of nights ago. Caught quite a buzz. Perhaps an atypical example. Will follow up with a more dry boxed sample soon enough.

A Cazadores (gift from Cigardawg, not sure of box code but will enquire) smoked a few weeks back is a close second.

PLPC from OEB FEB 07 and Sig 1 from AEP MAR 06 are also quite strong.

Siglo VI from July 05. It had the "intensity of body" along with the complexity, and it made my head spin. I wouldn't want one every night, but it was awesome. Not all in the box have been that way.

Just last night I had a R&J Hermoso #2. My teenage son said "Whoa, what's the story on that one?" I asked what he meant. "That's different -- it smells like hemp or something." It had a sour earth quality that kept getting stronger and gradually overwhelmed every other flavor. The cigar itself was okay until the last third, but the unpleasant taste stayed for hours afterward. I usually just don't like the EL wrappers.

Bolivar Belle Fino's late 06 excellent

Partagas 898 late 06 very tasty and rich

PLPC late 06 sweet and powerful

Bolivar corona Jr late 06 raw and untamed

Bolivar Gold Medal's late 06

Partagas Loni's I think it was a 99 rich and intoxicating

All have a long finish with very complex flavor some more than others bu all were very very bold.

RJ Cazadores don't see how these are strong or complex they are very tasty but not strong smoked 3 boxes in the past 04 and 05's.

I would agree that maybe the 06's are stronger than any other in the last 8 years because of the cigars I have smoked in 06.

I think 06 is the best year I ever smoked any cigar it will go down as a classic year for Habano's and i have smoked aged cigars to.

Yeah, this is probably the strongest I've smoked recently, although a couple of others surprised me:

'05 Monte 'D' EL was very peppery and tannic in 2006. They've tamed down now and are quite sweet.

An '04 Petit Corona del Punch really got my attention with it's peppery intensity.

The new Hoyo Regalos EL was pretty peppery, too.

I had a Montecristo Petit Tubos that was incredibly strong. I couldn't believe how strong it was! I laid the rest down for awhile to let them open up a bit. I think there is potential there for an incredible smoke.

RyJ Cazadore 2002 (I dont have any younger ones so couldnt comment). Some fruit, but mainly strong tobacco. Not a favorite, even though it "kicks butt" in a way... In the "very strong but good" category I like the Partagas Lonsdales. Unfortunately, they discontinued them.

The one that stands out is a Punch Super Selection #2 from 2001. One of the few cigars that will make me dizzy if not smoked slowly or on an full stomach.

I agree on the Punch SS#2. I've also smoked a few H.Upman Connaisseur No.1 from 01 that made me sit down and take long, slow breaths...

Vegas Robaina Famoso I reviewed recently although that is likely to be an abberation.

A few Connoisseur No 3 from early 06 which left me like a bowl of quivering jelly. Very full and lush on the palate but with enough nicotine to kill a brown dog.

Partagas Short from SHI DIC 05, smoked last night in Whistler. I believe I'm down to about the last couple from the box, a real shame as every one has been outstanding.
