jwm8592 Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Looking at buying a box of Bolivar, either the Belicosos Finos or the Coronas Extra, can those of you who have experience of the two comment. Surely I understand that the smokes may differ by box code, etc.. But generally I would appreciate what those in the know have to say about both of them. I currently have the Bolivar Inmensas and like them very much, also the RyJ SC are a staple in my humi.

That's tough one. I like every single Bolivar vitola I've tried from the itty-bitty Tubos No.3 to the Coronas Gigantes. The BBF is the one vitola that I've never connected with. It just doen't light me up. The recent issue Royal Coronas, on the other hand, are flat out tasty. Based on the two cigars you identified as being in your humi, I'd hazard a guess that the BBF might suit you better but honestly, the BRC is smoking great right now. Perhaps you might want to buy a box of the BRC and a fiver of the BBF to satisfy curiosity? Wilkey
Jimmy2 Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 boli,s are my favor brand overall they never fail in flavor department. The BF have not been as good as they use to be strong in earthy rich tobacco flavor maybe late 06 have changed. Boli CX have been excellent and are strong and complex in every department go for any box code POS from 06/07. Buy them Also try Boli Corona Jr strong complex in rich tobacco flavors and are much much better than the petite coronas. Another GREAT choice
habanohal Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I too am a BOli *****. Nothing wrong with the 2 you mention , but would go for the Royal Coronas. They are the bomb. Lately any BBFs have been nothing spectazcular. The Corona Extra , to , me, is on the mild side. Prez says its a spice bomb, but I havent noticed that at all

Neither the BBF or BCE are currently powerhouses. The BCE is a glorious complex smoke particularly with some serious (4+). If you have the patience indulge. The BBF has been hit and miss. The last one I had a few weeks ago was a "hit". Great draw and good flavours...very satisfying. I would still think that a Boli Sampler would be a great way to go: 5 BBF 5 BCE 5 BPC 5 BPCJ 5 BCG
Colt45 Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 You've already received some good advice - I might add to do a search for these two cigars, and read the reviews. I've been smoking some BBFs from '05 that never fail to put a smile on my face. The CE is a great cigar in a great format that will reward patience. A sampler is a great idea, and I also have to put in a word for the Corona Gigantes - the king of churchills. :-)
shrink Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Between the BBF's and the BCE's, go for the early 2006 BCE's. They are enormously flavorful, and are strong enough for me. The Coronas Gigantes are pretty good, too, but not as strong or tasty.

I recently bought a cabinet of 50 of those Bolivar Corona Extra ('05)... They are simply fantastic! Extremely tasty and really reflecting the best of the Bolivar in my opinion. And the smell when you open the box simply yummy! This cigar seems to be up after about 18 months of age. In regards of the Bolivar Belicosos Finos, the funny thing is that there is quite a big difference between the cabinet (SLB) and the normal box. For the rest it is surely a question of taste, and personally I love them with a late morning coffee! Guib:-) u

Thanks to all that replied, based on the information I will either go for the samplers or try the Bolivar RC's. Some of you mention a particular box code, I do understand what the code is, but when you order do you have any control over what code you get or is it just the luck of the draw? Can you request a particular box code of a certain brand? I guess I always just assumed you received whatever they had in stock and sent to you, although some retailers do list what the box codes are prior to buying.

Fantastic cigar!
Tampa1257 Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I was a little surprised that Rob left out of the Boli Sampler probably the best smoking Bolivar currently, that being the Bolivar Royal Corona. Wonder why??????? He wants them to be the best kept secret for him, he wants them all and sell off all the BBF's and other Boli's Now if you like or enjoy the Belicoso sized cigar, then get a few SCDH La Punta's or if able to find them, Ramón Allones Belicoso Fino, those are the best smoking Belicoso's available currently in my opinion.........
