Fried Green Tomatoes

Recommended Posts

I was walking through the family room last night on my way upstairs to fire up a Party No.4. I looked at the tv on the way by as the movie Fried Green Tomatoes was starting. I took a quick right and parked my butt in the recliner.

It has been years since I have seen this movie. It stars Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy and Mary Stuart Masterson (1991). The story takes place in Alabama during the 1930s. A good story about two young women growing into adulthood in a rural whistlestop town. Lots of personal tragedy and triumphs in the Old South. Good supporting cast.

It was a delightful way to spend a couple of hours without a smoke. I just wish I'd had a plate of those fried green tomatoes!

Nice to see there are some members who aren't afraid to get in touch with their

feminine sides. What's next, a Terms of Endearment / Ghost double feature?

Well, I'm off to a triple feature of Terminator I, Kill BIll I, and Bad Boys II.........

P.S. Welcome to FOH, Okie2

» Sure you are Colt....what you are really going to see is Butt Boys and

» Dinettes...

I'm actually afraid to do a search for this title......... and even more afraid to ask how

you know such a movie exists.......

Anyone up for a midnight screening of The Crying Game?

This article will help you decide whether a movie is a chick flick or a macho movie. The Chick Flick approach is shown first, then the Macho Movie approach.

Chick Flicks vs.

Macho Movies

Can You Tell The Difference?

by: Kathy Shaskan

The Chick Flick:

The main relationship is between a man and woman

The Macho Movie:

The main relationship is between a man and his sworn enemy (or sometimes his sub-machine gun and/or sports car).

There are lots of close-ups so you can see every emotion on the character’s face.

There are lots of long shots so you can see every bit of blood, bone and grey matter that explodes from the character’s face.

The villains are people you see everyday, like cheating husbands and nasty bosses.

The villians are people you’ll probably never see in a lifetime, like heads of cocaine cartels and man-eating aliens.

The villain’s worst act is something awful like sleeping with her best friend’spouse.

The villain’s worst act is something awful like stealing a nuclear weapon.

A chick flick always includes child actors so they can add humanity and warmth to the story.

A macho movie includes child actors so they can be kidnapped and add suspense to the story.

The characters learn to respect one another through long talks and thoughful actions.

The characters learn to respect one another by beating each other up.

If someone gets a disease, it's inevitably cancer or heart failure.

If someone gets a disease, it's inevitably a rare form of radiation poisoning or an exotic parasitic infection picked up in space.

There will be at least one emotional death

There will be at least 20 unemotional deaths

There will be at least one grunting, gooey depiction of childbirth.

There will be at least one grunting, gooey scene of hand-to-hand combat.

The chick flick will feature at least one scene where the lead character interacts with her mother.

The macho movie will feature at least one scene where the lead character interacts with a digital readout counting down to zero.

The climactic scene involves an explosion of passion.

The climactic scene involves an explosion of a car, bridge or other man-made structure.

A happy ending is when the lead character finds love.

A happy ending is when the lead character finds the villain and blows him to smithereens.

» the scary thing is i'm with colt.

» but if blokes want to watch chick flicks... not that there is anything

» wrong with that.

Pleeeease don't tell me that you will also start smoking cigars with essential oils and botanicals, just to go with the chick flick vibe... that'd be real scary (as would be Rob becoming a purveyor of Lars Teten and Acid cigars)...

have you learnt nothing?

rob would happily 'purvey' chemical weapons and dirty bombs to bin laden, as long as there was a profit in it. the man is textbook capitalist. not that there is anything at all wrong with that.

the good thing about that is you know that rob would be ripping bin laden off something wicked.

Yo Prez... I am sure that if you were the capitalist that ken caricatures you to be you'd be in the arms and drug trade, or working for Macquarie or B&B. Though smoking cigars is a truly decadent past-time, selling them is hardly a quick money venture... and I salute you if you can become immensely wealthy while providing us with top-quality well-priced cigars and service...:ok:

I am a simple man of simple tastes Ken.

For me, greatest utility comes from family, friends and simple past times.

Profit in nothing but a by product from the road to temperance.......

» I've never seen the movie, but I love fried green tomatoes!

For those how have not seen the movie let me say that it is a chick flick. To be balanced I have to say also that it is still a good movie and can entertain a "real man". Don't you just love they idea of eating the victum and feeding him to the DA? They also talk openly about vaginas and that always is a good thing.;-)
