El Presidente Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I will post a few reviews later today. Apologies for my absence over the past day or so but alas my wife accidentally ran over my Chesapeake pup (Cohiba) and I am running around trying to arrange some housing to immobilise him for 2-4 weeks while his fractured pelvis and legs repair. Will be back on deck fulltime later today with some reviews. If anyone has some ideas as to how to keep a 5 month old pup sane while confined in a small space....let me know.
Colt45 Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Sorry to hear of Cohiba's misfortune - animals are quite resilient! Good luck trying to keep him quiet!
SmokinLightning Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Sorry to hear about your puppy, Rob. Here's to a speedy recovery!
atomross13 Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 » some ideas as to how to keep a 5 month old pup sane while confined in a » small space....let me know. Sorry to hear about the pup. best thing I cna think of is lots of chew toys and lots of attention.
ccsmoker Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Sorry to hear that, hope the pup pulls through quickly.A little peanut butter on the roof of his mouth will keep him bussy for a while.;-)
korryp Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 My wife did basically the same thing to a 12 week old kitten. She slammed a door while the kitten was trying to follow her. The cat had to have her right front paw operated on and then a new bandage done weekly for 11 weeks. Each week they had to gas the cat to get her to settle down enough so that they could work on her. I truly think these gasins didn't help her mentally. She's a mess. Sorry to hear about your dog and hope it all works out okay.
phxkev Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Best wishes for a quick recovery for Cohiba! And I hope your wife has an easy time finding a new place to live.
tmos Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I have no idea. If it were me, since it's not a highly trained hunting dog, I'd put Cohiba down and start over with a Sir Winston. But I'm sure the wife feels horrible and the kids.....damn, you're going to have to sell a LOT of cigars to pay that bill. :-(
tmos Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 All that for a cat? I'm really a BIGTIME animal lover, but I came to a realization a long time ago that they're NOT people, no matter how much we want to make them/treat them as such. If they're in pain, you do the humane thing and send them to the happy hunting ground. If you're spiritual you'll see them on the other side. If not, who cares--you'll both be dead. :-D
Loki Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Hope he gets better quick. Rob, is he crate trained? If so you may just want to leave him in there and supervise his outings. When we had my over zealous bull terrier spayed she spent alot of time in her crate with bedding as not to tear open all those nice new stiches. Good luck
olotti Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Aw man sorrry to hear about the dog, hope he has a speedy recovery and your wife isn't to traumatized by the event. My dad ran over and killed a cat we had way back in the day and I know he felt terrible for a while and that was just a cat. Looking forward to the reviews.
VigorishSLC Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Terrible to hear about your pup, I wish you the best.
DrAlejandro Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 heres to a quick recovery for your dog prez...
El Presidente Posted January 31, 2007 Author Posted January 31, 2007 My little Chessie has a 3 breaks in the pelvis and two broken legs. Home tonight and I have bought it a crate as it will be out of operation for a month or so. Cohiba will be our house dog at Czar House when fully trained. We are well along the way to having the worlds first cigar retrieving dog ;-) Thankyou for your well wishes. Wife on probation.
shrink Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I breed and show dogs, and I'm always sorry to hear of these kind of things. You're a good man, Rob, to spend the love and money on saving Cohiba. He'll be even more special after all this. Believe me, I know. In terms of keeping the puppy quiet. Well, that's tough with a five month old. They are so active, and don't want to be left alone. If you have another dog, you might put Cohiba's crate next to that dog's kennel. I also play classical music in my kennel. It seems to calm them, and blocks out extraneous noises that cause barking. At least the dogs are familiar with Mozart. One is taking piano lessons. A low dose of tranquilizer, such as Valium or Ace (Acepromazine), can also help sedate the dog until his healing is well underway. And, of course, give the animal lots of love and attention.
greenpimp Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Hope Cohiba heals quick. Hopefully he'll be grateful now and quick around the damn cars. Pagnig JJ--she's the dog training expert I know.
anacostiakat Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Damn I hope he heals up real good. I am sure the wife is upset. :-(
