What's everyones favourite Robusto? The other day I spent quite a while sitting on the deck smoking a Cohiba Robusto, after reading a few articles on ther inconsistency and bland flavour, I was actually very surprised to find it was a great smoke, rich and had no long ugly after taste, any thoughts?

Some of the best cigar memories I have are with a Cohiba Robusto. I have had duds but plenty of times the smooth honey, grass, coffee flavours just blow me away.

Juan Lopez Seleccion No 2 is also a favourite.

I really enjoy the following Robusto's. To be honest I like most of them cause it's a great size for me.

PSD4 Nice spicey smoke after a meal

HdM Epi 2 Great in morning with Coffee

VR Famoso nice creamy smoke.

RyJ Ex. 4 Good also with Coffee in the morning

I'm a devout JL#2 guy but the 06 RASS's are closing ever so quickly. I would put those 1a and 1b respectively and the PSD4 #2 for me but it has been too inconsistent to make a #1 but I have yet to try the 06's which may make it 1c.

Generally, I enjoy most all Robusto's. That is about the largest ring gauge cigar that I enjoy other than a Piramide or a Belicoso. My favorites have been historically the PSD4, which after 2003 were just not worth buying during 2004 and 2005, but I have recently sampled a couple of 2006's that have re-affirmed my love affair with the PSD4.

Aged VR Famosos are out of this world! Chocolate Bombs and creamy coffee and mocha. Great friggen cigars!

RASS, The older, the better in my humble opinion, and I have yet to try an 06, but several people tell me they are excellent and expected to aged well as well as smoke good right now.

Hoyo Epi No.2, historically a medium bodied cigar with complexity as well as depth of flavor and worthy of being in a humidor.

RyJ Exhb No. 4, Floral, fruit, almost raisins, earthy and rich leather, got to love them!

I generally have not been a fan of the JLo No.2, but I was sent an aged 99 recently that opened my eyes to them and was surprised at how close they were to aged RyJ Exh No.4's in flavor, interesting and delicious.

I saved the "King" of Robusto's for last Cohiba Robusto, While I too have smoked my share of dud's, they are the rare occasion vs the majority of the time they provide the creamy texture, coffee, nuttiness with beany flavors of vanilla and chocolate along with what many people describe as a grassiness. When they are "ON", their complexity is difficult to compare with any other Robusto, thus why many people consider them the "King" of Robusto's. Worthy and should be in any serious Cuban cigar smokers humidor. But all of these are only my personal opinions.

This is a timely question, jb...

A year ago, I could have answered the question easily. Best robusto, in this order:

PSD4 young or aged

RASS aged only

CoRo aged only

JL #2 young or aged

But 2006 has changed my thinking. So many '06 robustos are very good to excellent, that my preference often depends on what I smoked last! If I had to rank 'em:

RASS young or aged

CoRo young or aged

PSD4 young or aged

Romeo Short Churchill

I have just had a cigar out of my humidor which I cross referenced to being a Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure no.2 it was, and no overstating, the best Robusto smoke I have ever had to date, it is a few years old, the ash was white and the draw was brilliant, I hope to get more soon and age them age them age them, then smoke them, the are bloody brilliant! I can reccomend them to anyone anytime!

p.s theyre really good :P

My favorite vitola, because of size/flavor/time necessary to smoke.

RASS

Epi 2

PSD4

And I do love CoRo!
