El Presidente Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Camping with my brothers and eldest son Ben was a hoot. The upper reaches of the Noosa River is magnificent. Secluded, pristine and with a host of local wildlife which inhabits your campsite. We were fortunate to share ours with a half dozen or so Goanna's and a resident Metre long Red Bellied Black Snake which seemed quite quite amused by our antics. The new fishing canoe proved to be a winner as I and my son cruised the river system with both power and electric motors from sun up to sundown. There is nothing like trolling for bass cigar in one hand and ice cold beer in the other. While the fishing was patchy my highlight was returning to camp one evening to see my brothers entertaining some well credentialled Estonian Backpackers.....one look at the backpackers and I new why my brothers did not meet me that afternoon at the designated spot on the river ;-) Cigar wise I had a wide selection with my highlight being the 06 RASS and R&J Short Churchills. Both are currently superb. Shark fishing this weekend for a change of pace. If we land one from the canoe I will post some picks :-)
habanablue Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 And while you were away your Broncos finally won a finals match!
Colt45 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Sounds great - welcome back! Nothing like finding Estonian credentials when you get back to camp.
Tampa1257 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Shark fishing from a canoe? Welcome back, and we all know that you smoked more than 2 cigars over the weekend!
Ben Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 » Cigar wise I had a wide selection with my highlight being the 06 RASS and » R&J Short Churchills. Both are currently superb. Eh Rob how about sticking the R&J's on the pricelist Sounds like you had a blast.
CIGARHead Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Glad you had a good time Rob. You do know the fishing was probably patchy because you had a beer in one hand and a cigar in the other. ;-) Its all about priorities.
Patsfan54 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Welcome back Sir. Two questions. Is the Red Bellied Black Snake poisonous? And I’m showing my ignorance here, but what is a RASS?
ENGPHOTO Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 » There is nothing like trolling for bass cigar in one hand and ice cold beer in the other. While the fishing was patchy ............. It might just be me, but i think the fishing was patchy because you were fishing with a beer and a cigar, gotta use that third hand for the rod and reel :rotfl: Lizards and snakes i can do without, but the backpackers sound very interesting  Glad you had a great time boss, cant wait to see the photos
chef2275 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 There is nothing like trolling for bass cigar in one hand and ice cold beer in the other. Sounds to me that your son had a fun time bringing the fish in.:-) Glad you had a fun time. Welcome back. chef
Colt45 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 » And I’m showing my ignorance here, but what is a RASS? PF54, RASS = Ramon Allones Specially Selected
n2advnture Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 » Shark fishing from a canoe? ROFLMAO!!!

shrink Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 » » And I’m showing my ignorance here, but what is a RASS? » PF54, RASS = Reticulated Australian Sea Snake It's a deadly bugger. Not much to look at, but has a real bite!
Guest boss hogg Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Sounds like a great time! Rob, did your brother draw inspiration from that unsavory scene in Deliverance with the (hopefully female) Estonian backpackers?
PigFish Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 » Sounds like a great time! » » Rob, did your brother draw inspiration from that unsavory scene in » Deliverance with the (hopefully female) Estonian backpackers? » » Now that's funny! Rob... no one in the family plays the banjo! ... Right? -LOL
Guest boss hogg Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 I'll update with more pics from Deliverance.
El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 » Welcome back Sir. » » Two questions. Is the Red Bellied Black Snake poisonous? » Red bellied blacks are venemous but not overly aggressive. You really need to step on one or corner one for it to flatten its head and have a strike. I would much rather face a red bellied black than a Brown Snake or Coastal Taipan. A bite from either and you are likely to meet your maker. Worse, they are agressive sons of ******* who will chase. Patrolling the campsite were a half dozen metre and a half - two metre Goanna's. I have a feeling that they tend to keep the snake population down. Nice place. I will have some photo's next week :-)
