Not strictly a Cuban Question....but wrapper

Recommended Posts

The recent attendance of the LV RTDA had me thinking.

I am not an expert of NC cigars (Let alone Cubans  ). I tried and tasted many new cigars and many old favourites (Padron Anniversarios etc).

My preference in Non Cuban Wrapper is Ecuadorian. To me it is the standout. As for filler, I am more and more impressed with Peruvian Ligero as part of a blend with Nicaraguan. There was plenty of crap (as usual) but I was impressed with 1-2 sticks.

Any thoughts which might enlighten?

Well, right now I am hooked on the Tatuaje Corojo wrapper and the Cabaiguan Ecuadorean Conne Shade wrappers. Fillers for these two are Nicaraguan. They are rolled in Miami.

Definitely cuban style cigars and if you have not tried them you most definitely must! :ok:

My favorite NC wrapper is a cuban seed corojo grown in Nicaragua.

The Padilla Miami 8/11 has this with a criollo/corojo binder and a Nicaraguan filler.

I agree on the Tatuaje all Nic with a Nic corojo wrapper.

A nice up and comer and realitively inexpensive is the Gran Habano with a Nic Corojo wrapper and Nic filler. All decent cigars.

The only N/Cs I tend to like other than the PAM 64s and Ashton VSG are

the Nicaraguan puros (corojo wrapper I believe).

Tatuaje Reservas

and

Don "Pepin" Garcia's Nicaraguan puros (Habana Leon 2000?)

Hope this helps

I also like the Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. The NC Hoyo de Monterrey Dark Sumatra is one such cigar. Here is my review:

As for the Peruvian, try the Montecristo Peruvian Square Pressed, reviewed here:

I guess I smoke non-Cubans too. :-D

Can't say I smoke too many NC's, but I'll agree that the Tatuaje's corojo is pretty nice. I also like the occassional cameroon wrapped smoke.

The question is, what were these Ecuadorian wrapped, peruvian/nicaraguan stuffed cigars you liked? :hungry::love::confused:

I spent a little time with the owner of Gran Habanero.

His were the only sticks that I didn't throw out when I was out of site of the booth.

He had some sticks he was enjoying himself which were not commercial production. They were excellent.
