:-( There go my banana smoothies. Poor bastards, can't imagine what it would feel like to lose your livelihood like that.

Tough situation for a lot of folks. Some times we don't realized how blessed we are given what others in life have had to deal with... Thanks for posting the pics Lisa

» Wow...the pic of the plantation is pretty impressive!

Talk about a picture being worth a thousand words...That kind of devastation is indeed going to be tough to come back from.

Wow the destructive power of cyclones, hurricanes is just incredible.

Very interesting thanks Lisa.

This really didn't get much play in the western media. Probably because it didn't make the President look bad and thus not newsworthy.

Looks like it was pretty bad. Any more pics?

from what i can gather, it was similar strength to katrina but the difference is that about ten people and a dog live up there. actually, it is a few more but it is quite sparsely populated. caused massive agricultural damage, and to local houses and buildings. wiped out 90% of our banana crop and much of the sugar cane and lychees etc (and a large % of the dope crop, i suspect, though that has not made the official figures).

has not made a huge impact as miraculously, no one was killed (they are reasonably used to cyclones so know what to do though this was the biggest for 50 years) or even seriously injured, partly because they are not that many folk up there, especially in comparison to new orleans etc. if no one killed there then we'd have long forgotten it.

» Damn! Thanks for the photos Lisa. They're pretty fascinating.

» Looks like that area was really pretty before the storm hit.

Yeah, thanks for posting. The American media really hasn't published much about this tradgedy.

The picture of those banana trees reminded me of pictures of pine trees just snapped in 1/2 when Katrina made her way through.

The site of that field of trees snapped in half just shows how awsome natures forces can be. Stay safe Lisa and all the CC gang....Hope the next one goes elsewhere...

Hi Guys

Just thought I would post some photo's of the destruction and aftermah of Ccylone Larry. The worse thing is there is another cyclone bearing down on the coast and they aren't able to determine the path yet

Besides destoying the houses, buildings, trees etc Cylone Larry has destroyed 90% of Australia's Banana plantation and it will take the poor farmers about 1 to 2 years to get back on their feet (if they do). Not only will it hurt the farmers but the Banana plantations bring all the back packers and their money, the whole community is going to hurt.

Just thought you may be interested in another example of natures force
