westg Posted July 12 Posted July 12 Would love to know what people think of today's fight. A while back I thought he was amazing. I find it very hard to take him seriously now. Does he really need to fight to maintain some sort of strangle hold on everything he does outside of the UFC? Stakeholders must be scratching their heads. I thought he was pathetic today. 2
Nikos Posted July 12 Posted July 12 Was hoping to see him pummeled. He lost me when he chinned the old Irishman in a pub. My respect soared for the old Irishman, who took it like an Irishman. 2
ImTripN2 Posted Sunday at 02:08 PM Posted Sunday at 02:08 PM 15 million USD guaranteed. If my math is correct, that's $425.000 per second. That's why I quit watching anything but amateur boxing more than 40 years ago. 2
Joeyjojo Posted Sunday at 04:35 PM Posted Sunday at 04:35 PM He's been more about hype and marketing than fighting for some time now. Yes, his initial rise was meteoric, but as Khabib said, a man only has one prime. 3
yuppie Posted Sunday at 05:34 PM Posted Sunday at 05:34 PM Not sure why the UFC can't find some new fighters to replace the old guard. He retired, he came back, whatever. Get some new guys in there to actually fight. Has UFC turned into Hollywood, just recreating every sequel that was once a box office hit? 2

As someone who's watched MMA for 20 years, it's pretty clear that the UFC don't want stars - They want to run shows of generic, replaceable guys that don't step out of line and ask for what they're worth. Going back to the Tito/Chuck days, Tito was reprimanded for placing business cards on the 1st row seats and wearing custom t-shirts mocking opponents. Then after that era, most of the stars were taken from Strikeforce - Cormier, Rousey, Rockhold, Henderson, Overeem etc. Then came the Reebok era - Guys forced to give up sponsor income and wear blank clothing for peanuts. I have always said that Conor became a star despite the UFC, not because of them. He broke every rule they apply to their fighters, but he made enough money to get away with it. 1
tbelle7 Posted Sunday at 07:11 PM Posted Sunday at 07:11 PM He's a drug addled shell of his former self. One could argue that was a staged fight. Conor most likely tore his ACL or MCL in camp or during fight week. He knows he has to show to make 30M. It seems clear the UFC has a lack of star power problem. They will keep trotting out the has-beens until they find some relatable stars. 1

Chitmo Posted Sunday at 11:51 PM Posted Sunday at 11:51 PM The UFC lost me 15 years ago, it used to be entertaining and now it’s barely more credible than WWE. 3
habanohal Posted Monday at 12:38 AM Posted Monday at 12:38 AM Another joke of a fight. Need to go back to the days of Tank Abbot and Dan Severan. 4
Ford2112 Posted Monday at 04:58 AM Posted Monday at 04:58 AM McNugget was chewing the roof of his mouth walking out of the octagon. His leg is the least of his troubles. 2
MadridPuros Posted Monday at 06:33 AM Posted Monday at 06:33 AM I understand this is about the McGregor but I want to highlight the absolutely amazing main card with the exception to the main event. Paddy put himself in title contention with total domination. Brandon Royval fight was a dog fight. Respect to Kavanagh. And King Green had a crazy turn of events, as it seemed McKinney was piecing him up but needs to work on his cardio. Bad main event but the rest were stunners. 4
Boxer31 Posted Monday at 05:01 PM Posted Monday at 05:01 PM I will put him in the good category. I really don’t remember any on his fights being memorable 10+ yrs ago. Not sure if he was already going through the motions when he ran into the buzz saw Khabib - but seems like fighting was not his priority after that loss. My guess is he didn’t take training too seriously and was hoping for a quick technical knockout. Don’t really care about him anymore so was rooting for Max. At least I don't have to pay for the PPV anymore since it's on Paramount +, but the rest of card was entertaining. 1
