Joeyjojo Posted June 13 Posted June 13 I can't even imagine how long the lawsuits over the brand names will take. Another concern is the fact Cuba cannot keep up with current demand as it is. Adding a legitimate US market into the mix might inadvertently cause all sorts of strains to an already shaky situation.
Çnote Posted June 13 Posted June 13 It's been done in recent memory. RomaCraft Wanderlust, Camacho Pre-Embargo. The marca/trademark issues will be solved with money. Lawyers will love it. Clear Havanas existed as the tax rate on rolled cigars was high enough compared to baled tobacco for an excess profit to be generated, along with the perceived quality (at the time) of made in Miami vs Havana. See Asbach Uralt, similar dynamics. Unfortunately, I would look at things like AO World Whiskey, Ichiro's Malt & Grain, Red Schooner Voyage, Penfolds Champagne, and see how those products are priced and marketed vs their intrinsic quality to the consumer. Again, see Asbach Uralt. There will certainly be an interested wholesale market for Cuban filler, and hopefully more transparency in tobacco sourcing. That could actually benefit the consumer and industry in the long run. 1
Popular Post LizardGizmo Posted June 13 Popular Post Posted June 13 It would so be great to have properly fermented and unrushed Cuban tobacco in a cigar that's ready to smoke at time of purchase. A cigar blended with aged Cuban tobacco that isn't $300? Bring it on. The entire concept of Cuban tobacco potentially becoming available to the blenders we know and love is incredible. Imagine Hamlet being able to use the tobacco he built his talents on in future Fab5 blends!! While it would be sad to see fewer Cuban puros - which to some extent is already happening - the prospect of giving great NC blenders another swath of ingredients to work with is incredibly exciting. I'd love to see a cigar with primarily Cuban filler, a Honduran binder, and a Cameroon wrapper. I also wonder how a touch of Nicaraguan tobacco could work in that kind of blend, similar to what Fabrica 5 does... Either way, for all the concerns surrounding the changing Cuban cigar industry, the potential positives are just as fascinating to me. 7

Capn_Jackson Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Cuban filler from Vuelta Abajo. Nicaraguan Criollo 98 binder. Honduran Corojo 98 wrapper. Somebody notify me when they arrive, I’ll be waiting. 🥃 3 1

Absolutely. But I’m not looking for reliable, I’m looking for a temperamental Italian (and Cuban)! 2

Said someone famous (probably) but most likely just me! I agree. I can only see NC tobacco bringing down CC tobacco. 4
Cigar Surgeon Posted June 15 Posted June 15 I'd do two: Cuban wrapper, Mexican San Andres binder, fillers from Condega, Ometepe, and Piloto Cubana from DR. Cuban wrapper, Ecuadorian Habano binder, fillers from Esteli, Jalapa and Olor from DR. 2
ReelMan Posted June 15 Posted June 15 It is now evident to me that, having read what many of you know about the various types of leaf and growing regions, that I should not be asked anything about cigars in future! You are a knowledgeable bunch, for sure! 😄 I know what I like and I know why I like it, but I could not identify the regions of leaves. 2 1
