I use a 50 L - Alpaca Camp Box from Gregory to store boxes and cigars that likely won't get used within the next 6 months. I have smaller container lined with Spanish cedar and 65 Bovedas for cigars that may get smoked in the near future. Been very happy with the Alpaca Camp box, I use a large 65 Boveda and RH stays very constant.

A concern with Tupperdors for me is the risk of microplastics exposure and chemical off gassing of the plastic. Are there brands that are made of types of plastics that minimize those risks?

In addition to the recommended washing by @BG318 and @Capn_Jackson, I afterwards let the interior surfaces sit overnight with a thin layer of hydrogen peroxide over them. This helps to oxidize any volatile substances remaining. Don’t forget the top too.

Since I have found that, even after all this, there can be a slight odor remaining I always include a board or two of fresh cedar.

Micro plastics shouldn’t be a concern unless you’re putting the cigars directly in contact with the box, which I would not recommend.

I have 4 320g 65% per ~150 lt, much much less than Boveda recommends. Year 3 no replacement for the oldest setups. The more in the box, the less moisture used from the Boveda to stabilize and maintain.
I use the same brand as Chibearsv but the largest I could find on Amazon at the time. In retrospect I should have gotten smaller as they are a little unwieldy to get through doors and when full they are heavy, but more cigars => better.
I am looking at AshMe Nothing set-up though.

I meant to add these sooner. A little cigar porn for ya. The HERF “Nudi-dor”! I like it for non boxed bundles, 5r’s, 10r’s. The small elevated shelves are magnetic and you can put 360g Bovedas under them and still use the space. One for each shelf.

This is 6 months of data. Somewhere around mid-March/late-AprilI swapped to 65% RH Bovedas after the humidity was creeping past where I was comfortable having it. The 69% ones were still like new. I would guess that they will rarely need swapped out or recharged, partly due to putting all my sticks in individual small tupper containers 15- 30 days prior to putting them in here.

I ended up going with a couple of these:

and I think one of these:

A little on the pricier side but I wanted something with a good latch and a rubber gasket. Oh and I gave up on Boveda years ago, I have no idea why these aren’t way more popular. I guess they’re not a consumable that retailers can keep selling you in perpetuity.  https://mlbaproducts.com/

I recharge 95% of my Bovedas. Just distilled water and a ziploc. Sometimes they develop hard chunks in them and/or I forget and they are done. Some people weigh them to get the correct water content back in them. I don’t bother with that.

like this one. 3 320g 65% Bovedas keep everything about 67%. I put a Govee on each shelf. I have 2. One for Fabrica5/CC and one for everything else. The trays are mahogany instead of cedar is the only down side and it doesn’t have a rubber seal but holds moisture very well. Put them in a basement or closet and the temp fluctuations are much less. I use a tupperdor similar to what is pictured above for full boxes. 2-3 320g Bovedas are plenty. It’s air tight.

Needed F5 room...

Isn't there enough OCD in cigars?

Beads certainly have their place, I love them, but Boveda is much easier at times.

There is definitely evidence of my OCD with Govee’s and dated labels on everything

Exactly. I have a special pen for band tags.

Komax Biokips, extra large (48.6 cups) is what I have. Got them on Amazon, but I haven’t seen them on there lately.

I basically wipe down with a 1:1 mixture of vinegar and distilled water (distilled, NOT tap). Be sure to wipe the underside of the lid, too. I don’t use soap of any kind because the two times I did, I thought I felt a filmy residue…could’ve been paranoia, though. After wiping with vinegar and water, I let that remain on the plastic for awhile inside the house, at room temp, with the lid off and underside facing up. Then I wipe it clean with distilled water, dry it with a paper towel making sure not to get any lint inside, and take it out in the sun. Let it sit open in the sunshine for about an hour or so, again with the underside of the lid facing up, and then bring it back inside. Then it sits for a day in a room inside the house, with the lid off facing up. Done. Ready to receive my sticks.

It sounds like a lot but that’s probably just me being overly descriptive (I’m wordy). Completely easy process, and I have ten of these tupperdores housing most of my NC’s, with about 90-100 sticks in each tupper. No plastic smell or taste whatsoever.

@Capn_Jackson

I received my container and decided to try your curing method, although not in your exact ratio. I left the container in the sun for a few hours then brought it inside. No smell! I used my cedar tray and some newspaper just to make sure, but it really wasn't necessary. The 65% Boveda is keeping the box in the mid 60's and now all of my Fab 5's are in there - a bit more than half full. Thanks for the suggestion - it works, everyone!

Now if Rob stops releasing new cigars (no chance of that) the container might last awhile. On the other hand, I have more room for CC's in my 150 LTR coolers now. If I could only get some...

I had my Fab 5 stuff in one of those large bins, but ran out of room 🤣 . Now they’re in one of those landmark-style 300-count humidors, but even that is full so I’ll have to figure out something very soon.
