El Presidente Posted May 18 Posted May 18 I have never been a beer drinker. I will occasionally indulge in a crisp Pilsner on a super hot day, but that is it. I have guests arriving from OS and interstate this week and will load up the czar deck fridge. Questions for members who enjoy a beer with a cigar. What is your favourite beer/s to accompany with a cigar?
Popular Post WestCoastSmokin Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 I’ll have a Michelob ultra every now and then. I’m looking to experience a Guinness and cigar. Haven’t gotten down to a lounge in awhile though. 7 1
Popular Post sbsbsb1 Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 Guinness, hands down. Nitro cans will do fine, particularly in warmer weather. But the king of all Guinness is the Foreign Extra Stout. @El Presidente you turned me on to the greatness of a Negroni...try the Foreign Extra Stout and thank me later. 11
Popular Post riderpride Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 +1 on Guinness and would like to add Steinlager Pure. Very light floral/vegetal notes that won't overwhelm and is amazing on a hot day. Cheers! 6
sbsbsb1 Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Barrel aged stouts can also be great with cigars. And Dogfish Head 120 minute pale ale. These are all pretty high abv brews, so sip slowly! 3
Popular Post Li Bai Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 I'm not much of a beer guy either but I'll make an exception for a Guinness every now and then 👍 6
Popular Post JohnS Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 I'm the same as @Li Bai. Very rarely would I drink a beer, but if I do, I love a Guinness! 7
Popular Post Bill Hayes Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 Ironically, it is beer festival time down here in Melbourne. I would pair a Partagas with a German Dunkel or a Porter perhaps, Bolivar with a Russian Imperial Stout or an Oatmeal Stout. Montecristo I think goes well with coffee infused stout. A maduro wrapper with a pastry stout. I think your Cohiba, ERdM, SLR seem to go well with German Wheat Beer called Heffeweissbier (I like Paulaner and Weihenstaphener in this style). If you just want a palate cleanser then I think Pilsner is not the right way to go because it is too boldly bitter at times. I think German lagers are on the smoother slightly sweeter side of Pilsners but not too sweet, just right for warm conditions. I also don't mind the original Budvar Budweisser from Czechoslovakia in a tall iced glass. I also put the can in the freezer for 15mins. So bloody good on a hot day. I prefer scotch and soda on hot days or dark sipping rum on cooler days. You could also consider a couple of draught ciders with ice but not the sweet ones, the draught sits in the middle nicely. I think if you do a Dan Murphy's search (ed.- A major Australian Beer, Wine & spirits retailer) you'll probably see the styles I'm talking about. Anyway, have a great weekend. Cheers. 8

Popular Post CaptainQuintero Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 For me it has so be something with a big body to match tobacco, so an imperial stout usually. 14% and up usually does the job to match that cigar strength. 5

Popular Post vvvendo1969 Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 Suntory Premium Molts that is the best beer in Japan, I believe. Guinness also pairs very well with cigars. 6

I agree with this statement from Bill Hayes and do enjoy German lagers in the summer time with my cigars. I like Rolling Rock (pale ale lager) with lighter, mild strength cigars and choose German Paulaner Lager with everything else. 11
Popular Post BrightonCorgi Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 This is our "house beer" if we don't buy something from one of the town breweries. Goes great with food or cigars. Never competes and just so easy to drink. 9 1

Namisgr11 Posted May 18 Posted May 18 I'm also of the camp that finds stout beers too big for most of the cigars I smoke. Instead, for me a pilsner or lager works fine. A good example is the Penn Pilsner, brewed near Pittsburgh in neighboring Pennsylvania and available only regionally. Even a Corona will do with a delicate flavored cigar. 3
Popular Post Khimerah Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 I really enjoy a nice Helles, whether that be Weheinstephaner or Benediktiner. I also really love La Chouffe Belgian blonde ale, it’s brewed with coriander so it has a really unique taste. All of those go very well with pretty much any Cuban I can think of. 6 1
Popular Post El Niño Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 I really love beer with a cigar, especially a lighter beer. They stay off the cigar's toes and cleanse the palate. Becks, Toña, Presidente, Kirin Ichiban , or some sort of hefeweizen would all please me. I also love Franziskaner Weissbier. Kind of a weird, heavier herbal one, but it does something fun to me. 6

Popular Post Goldeneye Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 Smithwicks goes great with cigars and a close second in my opinion is Guinness. Really like German pilsners as well with cigars when it is quite warm out. Avoid IPA’s which generally shouldn’t be drank ever, but especially with a cigar. 11
Popular Post mbflash80 Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 It's my favorite pairing. I am a pilsner/lager guy and drink all kinds of them from all parts of the world...but if I had to pick just one to have with a cigar it would be Heater Allen Pils. It's pretty much perfect. 10
Popular Post Lucas Buck Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 Of the well known beers Guinness & Modelo Negra are my favorites. I find that stouts & scotch ales pair well with most Cuban cigars. 9
Chitmo Posted May 18 Posted May 18 The 0% Guinness will hit the spot if I’m in the mood for a beer. Haven’t really drank alcohol in years though, it has a nasty side effect of making me depressed for days afterwards. 4
