FOH Discord AA Meeting?

Hi, FOH Community!

As some of you likely know, I’m a recovering alcoholic. I’ve been sober for 14 years, 10 months, and 22 days.

Part of what helped me get and stay sober is the wonderful AA people I’ve met and the few truly excellent meetings I’ve attended. Lately, I haven’t found any meetings I like or connect with, which has led me to wanting to start a virtual AA meeting for FOH members in recovery. Rob has graciously allowed me to post this here and to use the FOH Discord for this purpose.

The meeting would be open to any FOH member in recovery or who wants to start their recovery journey. We would follow all AA tenets, including anonymity. In setting this up, though, I’d like to gauge interest and get a consensus on time and meeting format with the poll questions below.

Thanks everyone! Really hope to get this off the ground and give even a little bit back to a community and a program that have done a world of good for me!

If @El Presidente or @JohnS could sticky this for a week, I’d be very grateful.

@NYGuido I'm not a candidate for the meeting, but I am a great advocate of pairing cigars with high end coffee and well chosen teas with complementary flavor profiles rather than alcohol, which IMO mostly just mutes the palate and gets in the way. Coffee and tea flavor notes sit beside or beneath cigar flavor notes very reliably and provide a much more complementary experience in my opinion. Would love to send over a box of some of the best NA matches I've collected for your meetings.

Fortunately for me alcohol is one vice that does appeal. I know for some it is a challenge and the mutual support those who struggle can give each other is immeasurable in its importance. This is a great idea and I wish good cheer and good health and the courage and power to battle their inner demons to those in need of support.

It is, but I figure setting a time aside for this might be useful and I wanted to ask Rob before trying to schedule something expressly for only a subset of the community.

Having never attended an AA meeting, but knowing folks who have, are these inclusive of folks with struggling family members, or would that be another group setting?

Al-Anon typically although you can attend AA meetings as well.

30-35 pounds worth. I can afford the rum but I can’t afford a complete new wardrobe. Also, I figured if Rob thought there was even a remote possibility of seeing me sober, he’d approve the request without hesitation! 😂
