Popular Post JohnnyO Posted March 5 Popular Post Posted March 5 Power went out for the entire island of Cuba yesterday 5am. Antonio Guiteras the Matanzas power plant is down again. I got chicken and cancelled with American and the rep told me there was a note on her screen that it might be out until March 10. Don't know why they are saying that but it seems fitting that this would happen after La Feria del Habano dates. I am also finding out that the workers at Antonio Guiteras in news interviews are saying they have to wait 38-40 hours for the machinery to cool down before they can work on it. So this looks like a minimum outage of 72 hours. John 5 2 8
griller Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I truly fear these outages once the Summer temps hit. Breaks my heart...

Odessa Posted March 5 Posted March 5 My best wishes, John to you, your family and ordinary people of Cuba.
Duxnutz Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Lots of news in the States about Cuba falling soon. I hope whatever happens is better than the status quo.
gillmiller Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Hope for the best. Losing power for that long is definitely frustrating, especially when it drags into a full day or more. It really makes you realize how much we rely on it for everything. Situations like that tend to get a lot of attention, similar to how cnn reviews highlight ongoing issues people deal with. Were you able to manage okay during the outage? Hopefully nothing too serious came from it. Still, not something anyone wants to deal with often.
JohnnyO Posted March 8 Author Posted March 8 Factory workers are not going to work unless they live close-by as there is no public transportation. Airport workers who had buses and cars that take them there are being told that service no longer exists. If they want to work they'll have to get there on their own. Parents can't send the kids to school if they ride a bus. Some parents aren't sending the kids to school if the power went out. The teachers scold the parents in a meeting. The parents answer: "My kids were fighting the mosquitos and heat all night and didn't get any sleep, you want them to go to class? Gasoline is officially 5000cup/liter on the streets or $10USD/liter. John 1 5
ha_banos Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Reports of widespread pots 'n' pans protests including in Havana without the regime wading in? https://www.14ymedio.com/cuba/abusadores-pongan-luz-abajo-comunismo_1_1124436.html Havana/ "Abusers! How long will this go on? ", "Turn on the lights!", " Díaz-Canel is a bastard !", "Down with communism! ", were some of the shouts heard Friday night in various locations in western Cuba, especially in Havana. Following the most recent collapse of the national electrical grid (SEN) three days ago, and given the difficulty of restoring it due to fuel shortages, the clanging of pots and pans once again filled the darkness in protest. https://diariodecuba.com/cuba/1772967596_65800.html ...residents demanded freedom instead of the restoration of power. https://x.com/i/status/2030665298504765484 2
