Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona

I have always heard/read the the Hoyo DC was a benchmark type of smoke. Been wanting to purchase some but hard to find. For anyone who has smoked them recently; how are they smoking? I like a med/full flavorful smoke like many I guess. Thank you!

HdM DC is a pretty mild smoke. Can also be pretty bland.

They are medium 80% of the way and then the end can be more powerful depends how quickly you smoke it. It's definitely Top 5 cigars for me...out of all DCs it's by far my favorite.

I can't speak to recent batches, but describing them as mild and bland is crazy.

One of my favorites, and tied with the Punch DC as the best Cuban DC, followed pretty closely with the Lusitania. Leaving the RAG in far distance mirror.

They age extremely well. Cocoa, cream, cinnamon. They sort of have this hot chocolate with whipped cream flavor, especially with some age. They aren't med/full, but none of Cuban's DC are Med/Full. If you want that, and a similar flavor, try the San Juan. I find it fairly similar. Little more strength, little less complexity.  But quite a bit cheaper.

Snagged quite a few of these when they were like 570 for a 50 cab. Memories.

Have only smoked them from a few cabs and boxes as I almost always pull a Lusitanias when I want a DC. I like them but they are on the milder side. Only ever had a couple that were exceptional.

My December 2019 box has been good to me and I enjoy the flavors and would buy another box. It is medium smoke and they burned well.

If you like Hoyo, then you’ll love the DC.

I think they’re amazing. I got lucky last month as well, and found two 50 cabs to stock up on as well. Nothing like a 50 cab of DC in my opinion, something special about having them in the humidor as they’re so large haha.

Let them age. I found them a bit boring when fresh but at 3+ years have had some amazing examples. @Bagman ‘s description is very close to how I’d describe them: Hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows.

Hoyo de Monterrey DC for me is not a cigar to smoke in a social situation. It is simply too nuanced.I need to smoke it slowly and let it evolve at it's own pace. The flavours lilt and wane. The transition/complexity is wonderful but subtle, delicate, refined.

I'd put all DCs into non-casual smoke category. Better to smoke a couple Corona Extras if it's not 100% about the cigar.

@LaoFan Your shoes almost look like the greatest basketball shoes ever made.  And please, nobody tell me that Air Jordans are the best, they aren't, or at least, they weren't in my day. Nike Airs (ca. 1982ish) however, were ground breaking shoes. The ones you are wearing aren't the right color for the original Nike Airs. Does Nike make current replicas of the originals? I can't imagine that they are similar to the originals except in appearance. The originals were like wearing trampolines. Kicked butt over the Converse that were the thing before that. Then a few years later, Air Jordans came out although they weren't nearly as good as the originals, but look cooler.
