Beneath the Band: Cohiba Medio Siglo

This series to explore whether a particular cigar is humidor worthy. Cost these days is an issue for many so let's see if we can highlight some absolute standouts. This should particularly assist those new to the cigar world.  

To be fair, most of the cigars we have featured to date have scored exceptionally well. Surprisingly well!

The Cohiba Medio Siglo at $52 a stick for a Petit Robusto is not going to poll well on "value" 

However, this is one of the finest and richest  blends in the Cohiba line-up.....all wasted because they put it in a Petit Robusto. My opinion only of course!!!

Throw this blend into an Edmundo size (135mm/5.3 inches X 52 RG) and I believe it would be one of Cohiba's greatest sellers.

I've had two boxes. Half way through the second. I've found them to be just okay. At the price, even before the hike, I was disappointed. Something magical needs to happen to the remaining for me to reconsider.

How new are they? The Medio Siglo needs some time, in my opinion.

I have an untouched box from 2020. Picked up a few singles to try while aging them and all were severely underfilled.

When they first were released, I must say that I had some sensational ones that were quite flavoursome. Since that time, I've had my share of underfilled, bitter-tasting disappointments in between some delicious, flavoursome ones. I'm not too keen on replenishing my stock nowadays.

Exceptional cigar. I've smoked through 4 boxes bought from FoH at $299 for 25. I have one box left and I won't be buying ever again.

I smoked a couple from 2023 that were gifted and they were ok, but young. I still have one left I'm saving. If I'm going to invest in a short smoke Cohiba, it would not be the Medio Siglo, it would be the Siglo I or II.

I like them for a change up, but, I would rather have a CoRo or a Siglo II.

I find it short in stature, but not in smoke time…they’re 60 mins+ for me.

I prefer them to CoRo - I really like the blend. I reach for it on evenings where I really want a full flavored, rich cigar with a little nicotine hit that I can smoke in a hour. They really benefit from being in tubes, or if you only have boxes in a well sealed bin with lots of cedar. 

I have seen some consistency issues as well, though all of mine are from 2017-2023, so no recent production. FWIW I’ve found CoRo are no better in that regard. I was willing to overlook that they’re too short before the prices went up. At their current price I am not buying more - they’re a bad value even by Cohiba standards compared to a Siglo II/III or even CCE.

A lovely cigar I’ll miss when I eventually run out.
