El Presidente Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago This series to explore whether a particular cigar is humidor worthy. Cost these days is an issue for many so let's see if we can highlight some absolute standouts. This should particularly assist those new to the cigar world. To be fair, most of the cigars we have featured to date have scored exceptionally well. Surprisingly well! Scoring is: 1-3 (Poor) 4-6 (Average to good) 7-10 (very good to excellent) Use the Poll. You are more than free to comment away The Hoyo De Monterrey Double Corona is a bona fide legend of a Cuban cigar. Lack of appropriate sized wrapper (and general incompetence) has seen production quantities of it and other Double Coronas decline over recent years. I remember a HSA dullard telling me that you need to smoke Hoyo young because they have no ageing ability. With geniuses like that running Cuban cigars, the future looks strong I love aged Hoyo DC. I love fresh Hoyo DC. This is a classic Cuban blend to be celebrated. If not a cab/box in your humidor....then 5 singles. Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona. Have your say! Let us know in this thread 1
mrakang Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago One of my absolute favorites — an iconic stick that goes all the way back to Michael Jordan celebrating his first three-peat with one in the locker room! 3
Mike Mecklenburg Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I'm a fan boy of Hoyo and this is at the top of the pyramid. 7-10 all around, 2
FOHgetaboutit Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I abstain from voting as I’ve never had one. Definitely on my wish list with how popular it seems to be! 3
griller Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Love this cigar but been at least 7-8 years since I've enjoyed one. I don't smoke a lot of DCs and have never really bought these by the box except for a Punch DC and RAG back in the early to mid 2000s. Kids, work, time, inflation, etc all drove me to the smaller sizes... 3
Lucas Buck Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Don’t care for them fresh as they tend to be one note. Recently smoked one from an ‘06 cab that was delightful. Second only to the stupendous Lusi among Cuban Double Coronas. 4

Had one from last year’s Christmas split (thanks again Dhruv) that was fantastic Hoyo sweet with added savory and musty funk in perfect balance. I’m sitting on a 2020 box that I’ll crack sometime this winter to see how they’re going. 5
Ford2112 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I guess I've never had a good one. Last on the list of DCs for me. 4
Mr. DD Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago The sole one I had was plugged and had to be reamed out with a draw tool - compromised but still smokable. I’m sure I would have enjoyed a well-constructed one much more. 4
loose_axle Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I really like these young and they age beautifully. I like them for when I do not want the full blast of a Lusitania but would like a long smoke. 3
JohnS Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I too have not experienced quite the same sentiment from a youthful Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona as I have an aged one. 2

The Hoyo DC is a tie with Punch for best DC in my book. The last decade or so has been an upswing for the Hoyo DC as well. I'd be more apt to take recent box over one that is 15-20 years old. 1
