Popular Post El Presidente Posted Tuesday at 07:44 PM Popular Post Posted Tuesday at 07:44 PM Cigar & Wine Masterclass with Ken Gargett. USA Friday 11th July, Saturday 12th July Local I still need to confirm this with Ken this week but circle this date. July - we will move onto Ports and other fortifieds that you can pick up locally. I will be bringing a Tokay if you can find one but as long as it is a fortified wine...you are good to join. Don't forget the cheese! Hopefully Charles will be there to answer all the cheese questions you may have. Ken will take you through the enchanted world of Ports and other fortified wines. We will record the session for other members to enjoy. I will announce the time a touch closer to the event but likely 8PM/9PM NY time, 10 or 11 am local. Let us know if you are a starter and I will arrange a link on zoom a few days prior. The Reisling masterclass was ...well...a masterclass!!! These are always fun 5 1

MrBirdman Posted Tuesday at 09:59 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:59 PM Awesome, unless I have to go out of town that weekend I'll be there.
loose_axle Posted Wednesday at 12:15 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:15 AM Should be good for this one as well!
JavierCorona Posted Wednesday at 02:16 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:16 AM This looks like a cracking good time. Will be sure to keep this in mind come next month. Fan of a good port with a cigar late evenings after a dinner.

Thats what I thought - Rob might want something a bit lighter in alcohol, although I would love for sweet wines to be their own week because of how varied they are.

loose_axle Posted Wednesday at 11:39 PM Posted Wednesday at 11:39 PM Topaque is an Australian fortified wine, formerly known as Tokay, now renamed to avoid confusion with Hungarian Tokaji wines. Ours is fortified with grape spirit like a white port etc, the Hungarians Tokay (or Tokaji) is a sweet wine using the furmint grape that has contracted the noble rot, with no added spirit there. I confess I had to go do some research as I'd originally planned on a sauternes or ice riesling when the idea was kicked around initially but then when I saw fortified it was to the google to see what qualified. 1

As an aside, Tokaji wine are the hot wines to buy at auction right now. They aren't being chased at the moment so lots of value. I don't know for how long though. Similarly with Sauternes, but the tide is slightly turning for the better on those. 2

I'm a fan of sherry as well and tend to drink it more in the summer, storing the bottle in the fridge. Usually the Lustau "Los Arcos". Thanks for the reminder, will pick up some this weekend!
