Awesome, unless I have to go out of town that weekend I'll be there.

This looks like a cracking good time. Will be sure to keep this in mind come next month.

Fan of a good port with a cigar late evenings after a dinner.

Can't go wrong with either.

Isn’t Tokai a sweet wine?

It is a sweet wine, but not fortified like port, madeira, or sherry.

Thats what I thought - Rob might want something a bit lighter in alcohol, although I would love for sweet wines to be their own week because of how varied they are.

Topaque is an Australian fortified wine, formerly known as Tokay, now renamed to avoid confusion with Hungarian Tokaji wines

Ours is fortified with grape spirit like a white port etc, the Hungarians Tokay (or Tokaji) is a sweet wine using the furmint grape that has contracted the noble rot, with no added spirit there.

I confess I had to go do some research as I'd originally planned on a sauternes or ice riesling when the idea was kicked around initially but then when I saw fortified it was to the google to see what qualified.

Oh, I thought it was just a typo on Tokaji wines.

As an aside, Tokaji wine are the hot wines to buy at auction right now. They aren't being chased at the moment so lots of value. I don't know for how long though. Similarly with Sauternes, but the tide is slightly turning for the better on those.

yep, tokay here (now topaque but fat chance of finding anyone who uses that term other than on labels) is a fortified style from Rutherglen (anyone not familiar with the fortifieds of Rutherglen needs to lift their game). muscat is probably more famous. also plenty of cracking sherries but of course, we have dropped sherry from labels and now use Apera.

i was thinking of having a sherry on the day, but also a Tokay. remembering it is 11am for us. great Muscat and Tokay from Rutherglen is one of the world's great wines - were wonderfully underpriced until that bastard Parker told the world and prices skyrocketed, although still well short of what they should be.

I'm a fan of sherry as well and tend to drink it more in the summer, storing the bottle in the fridge. Usually the Lustau "Los Arcos". Thanks for the reminder, will pick up some this weekend!
