Selling cars privately & the most sentimental car you have owned?

Our cars have two coats ot Gtechniq EXOv5 and still shine after 3 years. The coating itself can scratch. Both cars clean up really well. Also applied to both cars summer and winter wheel sets. I plan to redo them this fall if we have both cars then.

I have always sold my cars privately, I sold a 2006 Chevy 3500 Duramax dually, 2009 BMW M3, a few other trucks and my wifes old Nissan Rogue. It is a pain and it is annoying but I think it is kind of fun to yank the chain of the lowballers .

By far my most sentimental car is my 2002 BMW M3, I bought this car with all the money that I saved for college when I realized that my $19,000 account wouldnt cover 3 months of school at the engineering program that I got into. Decided to join the military instead and buy my dream car. Surprisingly, my parents didn't think it was the worst idea ever. I bought this beautiful M3 in Carbon Black over Cinnamon interior with a 6 speed and only 70,000 miles. This was back in 2015 and I have had the car since. Although it isn't anything like it started, I will never sell it. Can't replace all the memories and fun I've had in it. 

It is currently a dedicated race car and in a mid life overhaul with a strong commitment to lose as much weight as possible ( carbon hood, carbon roof, carbon core support, thinning the wiring harness ) while also refreshing many suspension and aerodynamic components. Hoping to be back on track in September.

2003 Mustang Cobra 10th Anniversary. It's stayed within the family, though sold to my cousin. California forced me to sell it, lol.

First car I have ever owned.

Spent a small fortune improving and meticulously restoring every aspect of it.

Provided me with years of enjoyment.

Unfortunately, I had to sell it as I could no longer plate it as a daily driver due to all the European spec components. 😡

Replaced it with an RS5.

I30N sold flawlessly. Lovely young guy Justin picks it up Saturday. 

Merc A45S, different story. Young lass is interstate and now wants to inspect the car, pay on the day, and drive home in the car.  Here s the kicker, she wanted to pay in cash on the day. $100K in cash. She is 26.

I had an obsession with the Renault 19 16v. Owned 3 of them simultaneously, a red 3 door hatchback, a white cabriolet & a blue Chamade, all phase 1. I worked on them myself, went to shows the whole thing- total love affair. Sold them with no drama but if I’d kept them they would be worth 10x as much now.

He made a lowball offer a couple of weeks back and today came back looking for service records. I wrote to stop being a dick and to agree on the price or the piss off. Agree on the price and you can have my underwear size, dick pic and anything else you want

He called me rude (the imputence!!!) Then agreed on the price. 

Let's see how this one goes. Change of strategy may have worked.

I'm sure I've said it before here but the one car that I was truly saddened to move on from was my 93 Chevy Caprice. V8 engine, halfway decent upholstery (compared to todays stuff), a steering wheel that needed to be effortlessly turned 1.5 times what you would on a typical car, built in ashtrays and cigarette lighters at all four windows; all in all just a true land boat. When I think of 'cruising' in a car this is the car I always think of.

My 1985 Alfa Romeo GTV6. Had one that was literally identical in college when I met and fell in love with my wife. Unfortuntely, I sold it in 1993, but 30 yrs later I found another one in the same exact spec, a rust-free example that had spent its entire life in California and I had to have it! It happened to be delivered to me in Florida on Father's day 2023, and my wife and I could not believe the time warp it was for us. It has the same exact italian car smell as we remembered, the same exact sound (both cars had Ansa exhaust), same feel. We drove around all day just giggling like we were back in our college days. PRICELESS!!!!

My 1987 Porsche 928S4 Supercharged 6.0L stroker motor racecar. I bought this car back in 2001 fairly early in my racing career because it was just such an amazingly special beast. Most 928 guys that are power hungry either supercharge their cars or install a billet scat crankshaft to increase the stroke by 1,000cc. This was the only 928 in the world (at least in the early 2000's anyway) that had BOTH! I raced it several times for fun but decided I should keep my 944 Turbo S racecar that I was successfully campaigning at the time as it was very competitive in the class I ran it in (GT3) and I knew it would be less expensive to run than this supercharged and stroked 928S4. This 928S4 runs in GT1, with other 600hp Porsches that happen to weigh 500lbs less, so as fast as it is, it is not as competitive in GT1 as my 944 Turbo S is in GT3.  I regretted selling the yellow beast in 2003, and I always missed it. Just last year on my birthday I reached out to the wealthy doctor that I had sold it to back in 2003 to see if he still had it and if he would consider selling it back to me. Sure enough, he still had it, had not raced it recently and was feeling bad about it sitting in his garage collecting dust. Of course, we made a deal and I bought it back, 21yrs since I had last seen it!

My pre-merger 1985 euro Mercedes 500SEC AMG 6.0L. This car was built in Affalterbach, Germany at the AMG factory and imported into the USA in the 1980's. I bought it about 5 years ago (just before the crazy covid car boom) as a clean, low original mile roller because the 6.0L 4-cam AMG engine was sent out for repairs, and the mechanic disappeared with the engine! The car is literally all there, fully loaded with nearly all AMG options available in 1985, but sans it's most desirable feature, the AMG 6.0L 4-cam engine! I knew it would be difficult to find a genuine pre-merger AMG 6.0L engine, but I had no idea not only how hard it would be, but that the covid boom would boost the values these pre-merger AMG cars through the roof and these engines are now worth many multiples of what they were 5-10 years ago! Luckily, after searching all around the world (literally!) I was able to secure one from another euro 1985 500 AMG. It is about to be completely rebuilt and I hope to have it installed and the car back on the road late 2025/early 2026.

I had an '85 GTV6 for a few years as well. Ansa downpipes and exhaust. Came with black cloth interior and swapped it for a tan leather interior. I sold it back to the guy I bought it from and then he shipped it Israel after doing some body work. He put in an Alfetta dash and few other styling touches.  

Digging your Ronal wheels. Wouldn't mind finding a Maratona and putting a 3.0L with S cams.

My family's car for 25 years was an '84 500 SEC (grey market import). Had AMG gauges and wheels but wasn't a true AMG. That is one of the best cars for driving with the windows down. Not a lot of wind buffeting.

One of the best cars ever made, and the best Mercedes Benz model ever made.
