Midweek Shootout Poll - where we randomly pit two Cuban sticks against one another to see which comes out on top. :cigar:

HU Sir Winston took down the CoLa last week...

Interesting match-up here... if you've had one and not the other or have had neither, give us your answer and discussion based on your experience and/or the allure/desire/interest in these combatants.

Read the scenario, vote in the poll, discuss below if you wish .

I wanted to pick the VR so bad as I love Robustos in general. But it’s hard to beat a PLPC especially with age. If you want caramel, you’re gonna have to wait at least 10 to15 years. I have a cab from 2005 that are just dripping with sweet honey and caramel. I only smoke them sparingly as they are so good and I will probably never be able to find another cab that old😢 The best Vegas Robaina Famosos I have ever had was a box I had from '97 - outstanding. The strange thing is that I never really chased after that cigar. I think the next time I bought a box was probably in 2015 but they seem to be hit and miss even in that one box. Some are rich, velvety and palate coating others are OK.

I actually really like both of these, but I went VR this go-around. I've yet to experience the complex caramel bomb out of a PLPC (oldest I've smoked came from 2017, I believe) so while the flavor profile fits my palate I don't ever really search it out. The VR once they have 5+ years have some nice flavor transitions and nuances that I've come to really enjoy.

@MoeFOH, are you doing this deliberately or by accident? Choosing cigars that are impossible to choose between? Caramel goodness in a Por Larranaga Petit Coronas is simply sublime but a Vegas Robaina Famosos that is "on" is indeed 'heavenly'!

Hard to choose as both offer something unique but this PLPC RAT 21 50 cab I have is really turning out to be something special…I also enjoy the funk/mongrel in the PLPC. Great change of pace from other smokes. This RAT cab beats out famosos I have had but might be unfair as this cab is a possible outlier.

Easily PLPC for me. One of my favorite cigars. Was gifted a ‘98 that was in my top ten all time. Not a big VR fan. One of my least favorite marcas. Only the sadly gone DA was ever a goto in the brand.

I also haven't experience caramel from the PLPC. Some sweetness from it yes, but the most caramel I've experienced was actually from a few Sancho Panza Non-Pluses. And i like the Montecarlos' flavor better than the plpc, if only they could make that same taste in a bigger ring gauge. VR Famoso gives me a combo of earthy baking spice and raisins that play really well together. VR takes it.

In the morning with a cup of coffee I’m taking the PL, after that I’ll take the VR.

Yeah, you can't go wrong there. What a combination (of cigars)!

PLPC...I just prefer the plpc flavor profile over VR. Plus I love a pc. I've never gotten a lot of the caramel notes...maybe fleeting whisps here and there.

I smoked half a cab of PLPC BRM Aug 23, most of the sticks had a remarkable caramel taste, especially if smoked in the morning.

I feel like both are versatile in the sense that they begin the journey with one flavor profile, and then both evolve into something else as they age . I suppose you could say that about most CC's.I really like the young PLPC with coffee, but I reaaallly love older Famosos, so I have to go with the VR, as I never get past the like stage with PLPC.
