JohnnyO Posted March 13 Posted March 13 I have a few friends that want to take a trip down to Havana/Pinar before the orange emperor closes up shop. Are there still any drivers/guides that speak English remaining? I tried to research but most of the info available is from a while ago. Thanks all, John

Ryan Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Jose Fernandez still going strong. Very nice guy, fluent English and knows all the farms/farmers in Pinar del Rio well. I met him last week, still at it. PM me if you'd like his phone number. 3

Popular Post LaoFan Posted March 15 Popular Post Posted March 15 This is my guy Leo! Studied law but decided $40 a month wasn't the life for him. Drives just a standard taxi. Good taste in music, super flexible, would consider him a good buddy now. Took us to vinales/pinar/varadero and helped me work my way into a few different events. His English isn't perfect but enough to get by. Helped me negotiate quite a few tricky situations. I didn't end up meeting Jose as he had other commitments, but talked to him leading up to the trip and he definitely seems knowledgable. Happy to share Leo's info with anybody who's looking for someone reliable and fair. 11

Numbers are certainly low comparing to before COVID era but still, it is far from being dead. P.S. Because of the ongoing trade war between Canada and the USA, many Canadians cancelled their vacation trips to the USA and decided to visit the Caribbean instead. Many of them chose Cuba because it is very cheap and, more importantly, there are no Americans on resort joking about 51st state.
SCgarman Posted March 17 Posted March 17 If Canadians would rather spend their money on vacation in Cuba where the lights don't stay on, the food is not fit for a dog, and the cigars are no longer "cheap" by definition, then I say enjoy! The USA won't go broke because of a Canadian tourist embargo. Plenty of folks from other countries want to vacation in Florida and other parts of the USA. 1
