I cut the cable 6 years ago, picked up a YouTube subscription, but it’s mostly for entertainment or educational stuff. No idea what X or Bluesky is about, but I’m pretty sure my brain wouldn’t consider either a viable news source. Meh, I’ll be tuning in to Jesse Welles a lot for the next four years, and tuning out the rest. Ignorance is bliss.

You could have gained my thoughtful insights on Twitter or Truth Social, until I was permanently banned on both. 😔

I cannot tell you how many texts I’ve gotten from my father furious about some “story” he found on a right-wing X feed that 30 seconds of searching reveals to be completely untrue or a gross distortion of reality. Of course he doesn’t believe me because he’s been conditioned to distrust traditional sources of news. And he’s a very smart guy. So I trust nothing on X or Bluesky.

I question everything including "traditional" media.

They all start from a very low trust base.

Hey I totally agree! I have my own issues with “mainstream media”, but its track record is still far better than X. I mean a few weeks ago I kept getting stuff about Jimmy Carter dying in my feed. Totally untrue. That's when I decided to stop checking X unless I wanted to see a specific feed. And at this point the few people I follow are all migrating to Bluesky, so I’ll be able to delete the app soon. I haven’t spent much more time there but I’m going in with the assumption it’s no more reliable.

The more desperate mainstream media becomes for relevancy, the worse they will become. They have to pay the bills.

Consumption of media is a cautionary tale. I would be teaching it at all school classes from year 3.

Completely agree - I’m here weighing in on them solely based on how likely a source is to be BS. There’s too much nonsense on X and I see no value in spending half my time sorting out what’s true and what’s not.

For what it’s worth, I don’t watch cable news either. I think the format and engagement model is completely unhealthy.

They should start showing porn in classrooms from age 6 on up. At least the kids would know what their local politicians have been up to.

And this guy is a Mod!? Holy guacamole!

As penance I think he should have to go and stay with Ken for at least a week.

I have done everything in my power to block all mainstream media feeds and focus solely on congressional bills, judicial notes, and executive orders. That's the only way a person really knows what is going on. Everything else is just embellishment and fabrication.

The average age a minor is exposed to porn is grade/year 3.

That is frightening in itself.

And unfortunately it shows... My sister-in-law is a social worker and what she has to deal with on a daily basis is enough to freak a grown man out!

There.

I can't get over the fact that my kids (10 and 8 ) told me they heard their friends talk about politics at recess yesterday (as you may know we're kind of in a middle of a political maelstrom here in France, like always) instead of doing really important things like playing ball 🤔

A childhood friend of mine is now middle to high rank in the army (Armée de l'Air) and one of the first things he was taught when he became an officer was that when the right hand is moving you should focus on the left hand, that should be taught early on because imo this is politics 101.

I ate Vegemite toast last night. That should be punishment enough.

Did you have to wash it down with anchovies and milk to get rid of the taste?

When I hear Vegemite I cannot help but think about Men at Work - my dad used to blast them all the time when I was a kid.
