Year 2017, vitola coronas gordas

Opening third: we begin with a fruity sweetness with plum jam, soon combining with a bread note, bringing to mind buttered fruit toast. Draw is very firm, body a hair under medium. As the initial sweet character tones down, there’s a vegetal dimension with fresh basil and bay leaf.

Middle third: body dropped down to a certain light now, draw still firm and burn is uneven requiring regular touchups. The vegetal notes holding the reins here with the addition of a barnyard grassy/hay flavour. There is still some sweetness lingering in the distance but suggesting more honeysuckle, perhaps even sweetened soy milk.

Final third: body hasn’t shifted and neither has the draw. Gave up my losing battle and went to town with the perfecdraw. Moving back towards the sweeter opening but more cereal than fruit - digestive biscuits, and a hint of butterscotch.

Smoked this in company and the aroma got a lot of friendly compliments from the nonsmokers.

I’ve had better of these both in terms of flavour and construction, but even a bad one is still a good time.

81/100
