benfica_77
Interesting statement he made saying that Fundies have been being held back by habanos for a handful of years for a launch of Fundies vintage which I assume it's the Anejado line. So like the RyJ Churchill Anejado and now it's Fundies.

So like the RyJ Churchill Anejado and now it's Fundies. The Fundie Anejados was announced for 2021, but never released. Anejados cigars were supposed to be 5-10 years old, so those cigars would have needed to have been rolled 2011-2016 and stored since then. Habanos announced the new Vintage program at the festival this year, and the first release is Fundadores Vintage 10, which are supposed to be 10-14 years old, ie, were rolled 2010-2014. Presumably they are the same cigars that were intended for the cancelled Anejados release. Total number being released is 55,000 sticks (across 1000 humidors of 55). No idea what the annual production of Fundies is, but 2,200 boxes per year I think would be on the low end for any regular production cigar, even a rare cigar like Fundies. It would make them about 4x as rare as a limited edition and on par with the lowest volume regional editions. Even if we say that Fundies are much rarer even than that and only 550 boxes per year are produced, the 55k sticks set aside for the Anejados and then the Vintage cigars would only be diverting four years of production, which would have been the years 2011-2014. Whatever the reason for scarcity of Fundies over the last few years, it is not that they were being diverted for the Vintage humidors. 2
RDB
I really hate what Habanos is doing to Trinidad. I can’t see them ever becoming more desirable than Monte or Partagas. In the meantime they are out of reach of a decent market.
