El Presidente Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 It is coming up to 1 year since the launch of Chat GPT. The speed of AI development has been astronomical. Where it has taken the internet 20+ years to evolve, AI in the public sphere has done in under 12 months. Jesus, it is scary watching the Sam Altmans of this world cosying up to congress to "assist" in determining guard rails for AI. This certainly smacks of inherrent self interest for Sam and co in keeping the next generation of players out of the sand pit. Scarier still would be if it was Elon taking the lead. Don't tell me he wouldn't make a great James Bond villain! I am unsure how AI regulation will work. Don't get me wrong, I think guard rails are essential in theory. I just don't understand how you can enforce those guard rails internationally. The EU will of course have the toughest rules. That is why most EU companies in the field will have their AI development teams in Asia if the US follows a similar path. China/Russia.....Pffft. Good luck them signing up and following protocol. Faith? I have zero faith in government getting this right. I have about the same level of faith in AI grand wizards having our best interests at heart. For the FOH tech community. Where is this heading? Where do you think will we land in terms of balance?

99call Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 My main concern with these AI types, is they all seem to be on the spectrum. The people I've known like this, have an inability to understand, express, or relate to feelings of empathy. They are often not purposefully bad people, but they simply have not affinity or sympathy with needs/desires of normal people. It seems to me obvious that if odd people are driving the outcomes of AI, that the outcomes will be also odd, and potentially dangerous. 2

Or just plain dangerous people or entities driving the outcomes. Especially terrifying when greed and power is the dominant driver without any regard for potentially terrible results.
BrightonCorgi Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 How can you ensure the whole world is on board with unified regulations? It can only be as regulated as the internet is today. Plenty of regulations and even more opportunities for bad actors. Going to be the same deal for AI.
