Uwiik Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Just got a delivery of the Siglo VI Tubos BTO (El Laguito) JUL 13, it’s like a dream and I really want to try one as soon as possible but not too sure about it. It’s been kept in 68% 65-69F and only took 30 min trip to my house. I smelled a few and they smelled like a dream, so sweet smelling like it’s coated in honey. I chucked them into my humidor set at 62-63% 67-68F and opened the cap on one of it, contemplating about trying that one first in a week after it dropped the internal humidity. But off course it’s hard to wait that long, I have an unseasoned Elie Bleu humidor sitting in an AC room, internal is always constant at 58% 69F, contemplating dry boxing tonight and smoke one tomorrow but I am too chicken shit to try dry boxing after my recent experience with too dry cigar. Please advise me on how to approach this in the safest and quickest way? 1
Popular Post Rushman Posted November 15, 2023 Popular Post Posted November 15, 2023 IMO, I wouldn't change your normal process, other than I would let them rest on your humidor for a while before you smoke. If you normally dry box, then do so. if not, I wouldn't worry about it too much. 5

Havanaaddict Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Everyone has their own process like me, I’ll have a package planned after a three week trip. I’ll crack it open and smoke one of them that night😜I have no restraint🤣but really it is a good judge of how the Cigar‘s are going to progress. The next one I will smoke probably a week later, after being in the humidor. And your circumstance it only traveled 30 minutes and it’s been in a tube if anything I would take it out of the tube in the morning and smoke it that night, don’t overthink it Cohiba tube cigars from 13’ are outstanding😍 2
ha_banos Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 We keep seeing the word process. It's a ritual if nothing less. 2
Puros Y Vino Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Fire up and enjoy. Maybe pair with water only so you get to experience the cigar only the first time around. 1

Enjoy the concept of the age. Think about all the things you've been doing in your life in the intervening 10yrs. It can help to put you in a peaceful frame of mind, and to savour/value what you are about to enjoy. 2 1
Uwiik Posted November 16, 2023 Author Posted November 16, 2023 Report!! I wanted to make a long review but quite busy today, so I’ll keep it short. Vitola was nice and firm, bouncy upon pressing and just the right resistance on cold draw, smell was overwhelming. I would say the most aromatic stick I ever smelt. Slight crack was observed on the foot, perhaps due to overly humid storage previously, nothing I cannot fix with perfect repair glue. It lit up effortlessly but first inch was really underwhelming, extremely smooth with no harshness whatsoever but without any pronounced flavor/weak flavor. Burn was very consistent but ash was black-ish grey throughout the burn, perhaps due to too high of humidity? Slowly progressed to a more nuanced flavor after the first inch up to first 1/3rd of the length, then all the surprises came out. On the second 1/3rd multiple flavors began to emerge, creamy, sweet (not honey sweet), nice aged woody flavor, a hint of coffee and just the right amount of pepper. The burn was spot on too on the second 1/3rd. Quite surprised on the progress and enjoyed it thoroughly until it began to get short. On the last 1/3rd it began to have a burn problem, nothing serious like an uneven burn but it just keep on dying on me, had to do a lot of relighting which off course made the smoke too peppery, hot and acrid despite my effort to be as delicate as possible with a lot of blowing out on relighting. Still able to nub it but definitely wasn’t the best experience. I'm not going to dis the quality for now because I know for a fact that this stick was way too humid after being kept at 68% for years. As for the rest, I will rest these inside my humidor for at least a month before I will try another stick.. 3

Many would suggest resting new arrivals 90 days in good storage conditions. It makes a noticeable difference. 1

You may want to pop the caps off the tubes when you put them in the humidor just to let them breathe a little bit if you’re planning on smoking another one soon. Also, I noticed you used a V cut I know it’s a personal preference but I’m not a big fan of a V cut especially on a large format. I like a nice guillotine cut so all the flavors can dance on my palate! 1 1

I will be more patient with these two. 😁👍
