I was reading a review in Traveller magazine of the new Peninsula Hotel in London and came across this lovely little paragrapgh that put the base room rate in perspective :lol3:

"Okay, rooms at The Peninsula start at £1,300 a night, but few places do service and technology like this. And there aren’t many London locations that feel quite as rarefied. Apparently, £5,000 is a relative bargain for the Cohiba Majestuosos cigars available at the Brooklands walk-in humidor. Maybe, just maybe, the same could be said for the hotel as a whole."

Thats pocket change for a lot of traveling traders and bankers. And it's posh. It'll do well. Not for me.

I did spend about 1,200 usd a night for a pleasant 3 night stay at the hotel Belair in Sorrento. It's built into a cliff with beautiful ocean views and we saved up for it. Interestingly enough, it wasn't our favorite place we stayed in italy. That award goes to the Dolce Vita in Tropea at 250 usd a night. We liked the town and laid back atmosphere the staff created there better. It's all relative.

Great place to stay when work or a customer is paying.

Boston recently opened the equivalent with a Raffles hotel & residences.  Similar customer profile.
