Popular Post ChangBang Posted September 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted September 9, 2023 I smoked a N4 I got in a trade back in March while watching the 2nd half of the lions/chiefs game. After an initial straight cut, seems like the cigar has a tight draw. Don't mess with it and hope it goes away once the cigar is lit. I purposely didn't go back and read what the Prez or anyone had to say about them since I wanted an unbiased opinion on the cigar. 1. Give it a light and am blasted with a pepper and spice with an eye-watering retrohale. Not a great start but I hope its just the start and when things warm up, at least the pepper will die down. Once the cigar settles a little bit of earth and wood come into the cigar. The spice is still there but is overshadowed by the pepper that persists. Maybe a touch of bread comes through. All of the flavors still lose out to the rough mongrel pepper burn that I encounter with the first half. Draw is firm but not bad enough for the perfecdraw. Burn line is perfect. 2. In the second half, there is a smokey oak that is present with the pepper. I feel like I'm smoking a spicy Nicaraguan cigar at this point and am not enjoying it. The oak gets to be mixed with some dirt or forrest-y flavors which does overtake the pepper finally. Attempted to retro again and am met with my sinus burning so I stop trying. Overall - 2/10. Pretty poor experience and I would not seek this out. I do have a few more so we'll see if that pepper can settle down. If I didn't already have more I wouldn't consider smoking them again. Now I look at what the Pres wrote about them when he introduced them. Seems like he was aiming for a Monte4 meets a Party short. I can see that beginning spice being kinda like a partagas short, so I agree with that! I'm not really a Monte4 fan and it's been a while since I had one...but I don't think they've been like the cigar I just had. Smoking a carlota right now and its better, but how much more? I'll prob write the review tomorrow, stay tuned unless I mysteriously disappear 😂 6
rcarlson Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 Wow. Your description is nothing like the pilots I smoked. In fact, I powered through a fresh bundle pretty quickly. Reminded me of the 1964 Padron principe but with minimal or no pepper. Even with the power of suggestion, I didn't get the Monte 4 meets Party Short described by Rob. And it certainly wouldn't be confused for any CC I've had. But what you're describing is nothing like what I experienced. I found them smooth, rich, and tasty. To each their own, I guess. 1
ChangBang Posted September 9, 2023 Author Posted September 9, 2023 Well I still have a few left so I'll have to revisit in another 6mo or so. Funny you should mention padron...I'm not really a fan of their cigars. Most Nicaraguan puros have the same overwhelming earth/dirt/pepper taste that I don't like. Yep my tastes are real weird considering how popular Padrons are!
SCgarman Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 Perhaps it may be that "mile high" air Denver is infamous for? 😁 1
mbflash80 Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 Well this review is certainly against the average...have you checked your humidity levels? proper cutting technique? Did you use a soft flame? Perhaps engaged with a therapist to reconcile your deep feelings of inadequacy? Lots to chew on here
ChangBang Posted September 12, 2023 Author Posted September 12, 2023 My storage is fine lol. Seems off the grain since no one has anything bad to say about the nudies? Do you really believe everyone loves em? People have different tastes so you'd think some people wouldn't like em right? Guess I'm one of those people - I'm not one to bullshit or kiss ass (probably could've further enhanced my career if I was...haha) Either way, this one cigar on that day was terrible for me. Think I had one previously and it was still below average for me but not this bad. 1
foursite12 Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 I happen to love this cigar and heartily wish I had bought more. Sorry the OP’s experience was not great.
