El Presidente Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 H. Upmann Magnum 48 Edicion Limitada 2009 48 x 110mm 4 3/8 " The H. Upmann Magnum 48 LE was an interesting cigar when it came out. There was no shortage of them as while they were consistent sellers, they remained in retailer inventory for just over two years. That is certainly not the case today with LE's I remember the howls of outrage when thee price first came out . Can you remember what you paid for your box of H. Upmann Magnum 48? From a tasting perspective, members either loved or hated these upon release. I found them to be that dark cooking chocolate profile with often a bitter edge. To me they smoothed out quite well. I know not everyone agrees. What has been your experience in ageing H. Upmann Magnum 48?
westg Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 Not really a fan of aging smaller formats . These were good over the first 5 . I usually pick up any EL going these would be in my bottom three in the last 15 years . 90 Point cigar from start to finish for me ..
sam Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 I like them a lot. Happy I picked up 2 boxes back in the day. Smoking them only on special occasions now. —-sam
El Presidente Posted May 1, 2023 Author Posted May 1, 2023 I believe our first price for these was $280 USD 1
Notsocleaver Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 I can't remember the exact price, but I remember picking some up years after release because they were cheaper than buying a mag 46 box. I always liked them, they were consistently good, never amazing but the format is the perfect 'short robusto' size. I wish it was used more.
Popular Post cookj1 Posted May 3, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 3, 2023 Seeing this thread, and having not had a HU Mag 48 in a while, I grabbed one for my dog walk last night. Age has mellowed out the tobacco. The mongrel isn’t there anymore but it’s not going to ever miraculously become a 95+ pointer either. There were moments when I was thinking HU Coronas Major, and there were moments I was thinking HU Mag 56. Although it’s a much smoother smoke since they were first released, the flavors aren’t anything to write home about. I still love the size. It’s a shame this didn’t turn out to be something more similar to the Mag 52. Light to start; medium to finish. At least it wasn’t one dimensional. The wrapper reminds me of early Partagas Maduro No.1 wrappers. …somewhat dull, mottled, and unattractive. 87 points - is harsh 88 points - is fair 89 points - is too generous …aging, but not like Benjamin Button. 7
Justins123 Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Bought a box for $169 from a well known vendor in December 2009. Shocking how affordable even “limited edition” cubans used to be.
cigaraholic Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Memories of the good old grey market days😰 I was never going to pay that much for a cigar that size, but when they dropped to $140 I was in. Always enjoyed them, rich earthy cocoa, a lovely short dessert cigar. 1 box left to go😰😰 1
