Cigar Surgeon Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 We drained a couple bottles down in 2019. My regret is I didn't bring back half a suitcase with me. Delicious stuff. 3

The base/cheapest version (I think there are three varieties) For the $45 or so a bottle it was last summer, there are several much more enjoyable cuban and non cuban rums for my palate. 24 minutes ago, Cigar Surgeon said: We drained a couple bottles down in 2019. I tried the one with the turquoise kinda colored accents on the label. I did not enjoy it. 2

That's the Stuff. I had to go back to my photo album and realized I was seeing three rows of the same thing, not three different varieties. (Top Center) 1

Ill take a look next month, but I think its still in the 40s, but MLC now. So in real terms, like double. Haha. Its still all over the place though. Gas stations, cigar shops, rum stores. Havana, PdR, Bay of Pigs. There has been plenty of Rum across the board the last 10 months or so. 1

vladdraq Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 For a Cuban Rum lacks a bit of character. Wasn't very impressed, but i could drink it gladly every day.

I was surprised to see it for sale here the states. Even if they claim it came across the border before the rules change, commercial sale would still be illegal. Apparently nobody is looking. Haha 1
Puros Y Vino Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 I killed my first bottle within 3 weeks. Very smooth and addictive. Being in the Sauternes barrels softens the edge/burn of the rum. I was muled another bottle from a friend returning from Europe. I'm doing my best to keep my greasy mitts off of it. There are some other opened Rum's I need to finish first. And yes, this pairs fantastically with cigars.

Lunettesman Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 One of my favorite rum ever. Straight, on the rock or even with coke it's just delicious. Find that it has a profil that suite lots of my lovely stogie. The cherry cask is someone sweater. Lover it. 1
BrightonCorgi Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 Crazy to think the French were sending Sauternes barrels to Cuba. Boy have time changed. Shipping barrels or pipes stopped back in the 70's for anywhere. Had no idea Sauternes was even shipped like that. Pretty cool. Tastes have changed; very few drink Sauternes today.

I meant shipping full barrels/pipes of wine.

The story on the history of using barrels said they use to ship full Sauternes to Cuba and then used the barrels afterwards. Not the case today. Only empty ones.

Ryan Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 The regular Pacto Navio is USD$47.95 in the cigar shops / MLC shops in Cuba. That price hasn't changed in over a year. The bottle is nice, I can't remember anything about the rum that would have me go hunting for it. There are better rums available in Cuba at lower prices. The higher end of the Perla del Norte range is very good at what they are priced at. Noticeably different to other Cuban rums, fruitier. Go to a state-owned bar / nightclub where they take CUP and a bottle of Pacto Navio can be found for $20 - $25 (with a 1.5 litre bottle of cola, bucket of ice and a plate of food for 4-6). At that price, and with the cola, it's a no-brainer. There is a new red-wine cask version of Pacto Navio out. I haven't seen that yet in the flesh. It would guess it's a little on the drier side. https://www.rhumattitude.com/en/cave/pacto-navio-red-wine-cask-40/ This price was Nov 21. Usually over 3,000 cup now. 1 1
Corylax18 Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 I tried this stuff again last month and I just dont like it. Haha. It smells like paint thinner and it doesn't taste much better. I've tried, but this stuff just isnt for me. It is Now 61.40 USD, which is just too much. At that price, it appears to be collecting dust. 1

Haha, Yeah. 3 of the group of 5 loved it and almost polished off that entire bottle in about 3 hours, me and the other guy just couldn't stand it. 1
