most folk I know don't like the taste of aged rum.

a spirit as sweet as rum isn't the best for aging.

edit: to clarify, I talking 10+ years as aged, not the 3/5/7 year aged stuff.

Rum is one of those spirits that is made ready to drink. It doesn't need all the extra measures that Whiskey, Cognac, Port, wine, etc needs.  With that said. I've found aged Rums to be more enjoyable than the respective brands "entry product" I guess it depends on what it is aged in?

I've found Zacapa 23 to be far too sweet but their XO offering is about 29/30YO?, that drinks like a Cognac and is very impressive.

HC Pacto Navio is exquisite. The Sauternes barrels do a nice job. HC Cuban Smokey is very strong like a Whiskey.  There's some remnants of Rum taste in there but it tastes far more boozy than most rums.

I'm not sure, there is a lot of price headroom in the rum market like there is for the more classic spirits.  If they slap "Cohiba" or "Behike" on the bottles, then they can upcharge. 🤪

I've never seen old rum, regardless of country sell for even close to other spirits for the same amount of aging.  An appeal of rum is the fact that one can buy such an old bottle for the fraction of what a whiskey or cognac would cost.  Even pre-revolution Bacardi isn't very expensive.

Literally the reason I switched from bourbon to rum a long while back.
