Partagas Maduro Number 1

Now this was a controversial release! Initially set out life as a Habanos specialist exclusive in 2015, the rubber hit the road with the public and it became a regular line in 2018.  Most Habanos purists were initially distraught. Many still are :D

Still, it found a loyal band of followers globally who loved it for its deep, dark decadent chocolate note. Partagas DNA? Not really, but few apparently cared.

Never been overly impressed with any of the Party Maduros. Some sweetness, some chocolate. They're fine, but that's about it. Maybe 10 years will bring something out but so far they're pretty mediocre. I'd rather have an E2.

... and this.

Never liked it, but admit I’ve only had very few, as all were pretty disappointing. Boring, mediocre cigars in my book, lacking any finesse and complexity. I don’t know what they are meant to bring to the (Partagás) table, what the “regular” wrapper releases don’t have. A fail for me, but perhaps a win from a marketing POV with the aim to address the NC competitors.

Yes indeed, they are fine but that's about it...well put. I guess the issue here is that they are too different as a Partagas cigar in relation to other classic Partagas cigars such as the Lusitanias, E2, 8-9-8 or even Serie D No.4 of late. Perhaps one can say the same for the Cohiba Maduro series in comparison to other Cohiba vitolas.

Personally, when I get a combined deep cocoa, baking spice, sour cherry and anise hit from these I am thrilled. However, when I do I wonder if I'm smoking a Romeo y Julieta cigar with a maduro wrapper?

Have a box from ‘18 and so far 5 in they have been terrible and unable to even finish. The aroma on them is delicious but once you light them it’s all downhill. So threw the box in back of humi and not touch again for 5+.

I really didn't know what to expect when I got a 2018 box of these. I knew there were mixed reviews ahead of time. With that being said I was not impressed by the first one I smoked.  As many noted, it is not your typical Partagas cigar.

I let them sit for 6 months before I tried another one. I started getting the floral notes I associate with Partagas, albeit muted.  Since then I have had a few more, and the improvement with age is noticeable, or maybe simply my palette has changed. Last one I had, was about a month ago and I feel the cigar is finally hitting its stride.  I feel 5 years will be the minimum for aging these guys.

I never felt the cigar was bad enough that i had to throw it away, but at times there was doubt if the purchase was worth it.  I can say that it was now.  I also think it is a unique cigar in a way that I am not willing to share because I think others will not appreciate it as much as I do 😀
