packaging is the best way to increase pricing without increasing the quality of the actual product. 

or even in some cases, increase the price while reducing the quality of the actual product. 

sell the sizzle, not the steak. 

most of us would rather have basic packaging, with more time spent on quality. 

but we don't represent the majority of the market, that's for sure!
