Popular Post JohnnyO Posted August 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 16, 2022 Some tidbits from my latest visit. The government is buying USD from the public at 120:1, creating more fears in the local markets. Parallel markets were quoting 127-128 CUP for the USD but everyone is hanging on waiting for the next bubble to burst as 150 is on the horizon. Many prices in CUP are holding, others are going up 20-25% to adjust. There is practically no bread on the island as wheat world markets have taken Cuba out of the picture. Bottled water is still an issue, haven't been able to find it easily for months. AC/lights off in T3 on the way out. The theme of the week is "Revolucion Comunitaria", power outages are necessary in Havana to help the poor bastards in the countryside that have no lights 14-15 hours. Each neighborhood has the power go out once in the day and the next day at night. Gas lines are long for gasoline, diesel is still very hard to find. The flights are not full as parents are returning their kids back to school. What little tourism there was is over. Beer is still super suspect but I am still finding wines, champagnes from Spain with tremendous value. They managed to move the price on the HUp Magnum 56 jars to the 700's that are in T3 after being almost 1100 Euros for months. No Cohiba in the airport except mini, club etc. Very sad to hear about Nino on my way back, he is probably watching over the fields/factories to make sure they do things right. John 6 6
NSXCIGAR Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 I'm afraid 120:1 will be the new 24:1. I have no idea how this situation is going to improve outside of a mass exodus of people.
Rhinoww Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Thanks for the update. It’s bad, gets worse. Then gets worse again.
