GoodStix Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 Normally use jet/torch lighters, but have to fly and I'm told security will confiscate. Need to buy a soft flame (and likely smoking outdoors, not a soft flame strength). Disposable BIC won't cut it -- need a better look for business. Not prepared to spend Dupont money. Someone suggested the Xikar Meridian Triple Soft Flame. Anyone used one? In short, any soft flame recommendation please?
Cigar Surgeon Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 iRoda or Soto. You carry the soft flame / refillable cartridge on board, toss the kit in the checked luggage. When you land you put it together and you have a travel torch. https://www.amazon.com/SOTO-Soto-Pocket-Torch-2019/dp/B005G3PQJQ/ https://www.amazon.com/ECG-J-300-Micro-Jet-Electronic-Temperature/dp/B00068IM9C/ 2 1
jbosma Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 I fly with 5 flags torch lighters a lot both domestic and international. Have never had a problem. They look a lot like a bic type soft flame lighter. https://www.amazon.com/Flags-Windproof-Torch-Lighter-Pieces/dp/B00IN7CFBY/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?adgrpid=54122908457&gclid=Cj0KCQjwrs2XBhDjARIsAHVymmRSQc6bBF_jhvGB5P9DXIN-ElgI5LKCs7L3WlouYgNQX-9Tu2GVzcgaAkomEALw_wcB&hvadid=274706467862&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9020398&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=13808083567646003602&hvtargid=kwd-329083593113&hydadcr=6690_9590799&keywords=five+flags+windproof+torch+lighter&qid=1660176675&sr=8-3 2 1
pohlmad Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Real tough ask. I was on this journey about a year ago and ended up getting the DuPont Le Grand. Anything I saw that was cheaper was bad looking and not functional. I’m happy with the decision now but it took some time for me to get there given the price. Good luck! 2 1
Tdm_86 Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 I don’t like BICs or any type of soft flame cigarette lighter of that type to light cigars with, because you have to hold the valve down to keep it lit. So I use a vintage St. Dupont Ligne I as my soft flame lighter. They’re relatively inexpensive and well made. 2 1
helix Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 Fake Dupont alibaba . Good clone to the original. LOL. 1
Glass Half Full Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 Cigar matches. Legal to carry on in US and Europe, at least. That said, I sometimes pick up a disposable lighter at the destination too. (I enjoy lighting with a match, ...except when it's windy.) 1

Bagman Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 Xikar EX. I no longer buy xikar because their lighters break constantly, at least the jet ones. But I have had the EX soft flame one for probably a decade. Rock solid, never a single issue and I use it a lot. 1
Hypersomniac Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 It's a pipe lighter, but I just bought a Kiribi Kabuto. So far it has been a delight. https://www.smokingpipes.com/accessories/lighters/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=377448 1 1
