What does one do with the bottle cap removers with the screw in them?

They're for opening boxes. Slightly sharpened round ends to cut the stickers/labels. The tiny slot should fit around the nail, twist your wrist and the box pops right open!

I believe the screw head looking thing is just a flat surface used to push the nail back in, but I'm not sure.

I think they're super cool and would still be an awesome marketing tool.

Thanks for the info.  Glad they aren’t meant to remove the cigar cap or cut the head somehow.  I could only think of the most medieval methods to do so….

I don’t see many boxes nailed closed anymore.  Never thought about replacing the nail either.  They are cool as a display or novelty though.

Pretty much all Cuban dress boxes have a nail. I find they close better when you keep the nail. That said, I’ve never needed a hammer to do it.

Yes, prefer the “OWWwww, sh^t..!” thumb method…but metal works, too. 😂

Only a couple of my dress boxes have them.   The vast majority of the boxes I get have been opened and inspected.   I guess they are completely removing the nail.

For NC boxes that have nails, I never bothered removing it.  I just cut any stickers  with a knife, loosened the edge a bit with the knife, then pulled it open.

Now I want one of these.   I’m also envisioning a modern version with something other than a bottle cap remover.  Definitely don’t need that.  Incorporating a poker and screwdriver for lighters would be useful.  But what for that fat end?

Neat, can you tell us anything more about the little leather pouch? Hanover PA is the next city over from me.  I never knew there was a cigar company there.  Since it refers to the square as "fountain square" I'd assume it dates from around the same time the fountain was in the square (1872-1904).  I'm gonna have to see if I can buy some D McG Newcomer memorabilia for decoration around.

Also, I'm surprised there weren't any draw pokers amongst the collection.  It makes me wonder what people did before the perfect draw came along.
