GoodStix Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Has anyone had hands-on experience using the Boveda ziploc storage bags long term? Large-size for holding a box or cab (with ample Boveda 65% packs inside). Fill shelves in a wine cooler. Are these Boveda storage bags ok for 5-8 years? (Already use Sterilite and Sistema gasket containers. Need a smaller option to hold single box/cab. Put them on shelves in wine cooler, without modifying cooler for RH control, so need to seal each box/cab along with Boveda RH packs.) (Also have a friend who needs the 69% packs the Boveda bags come with, so no waste.) 5-8 years ok? Thanks.
garbandz Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 you will want to check the Bovedas twice a year. I have the majority of my stash in ziplocks ,and just did a check this weekend. Do use the premium, double locking bags, they keep in the moisture the best. I also have a large Boveda in each storage box ,just as a safety to keep the air just right. 2
BuzzArd Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 I’ve never used a Boveda branded ziplock, but routinely keep boxes in the ziplock freezer bags and as @garbandz said check them routinely. I currently have about 120 boxes stashed that won’t fit in my cabinets and smoke out of them regularly. No issues at all. 3
La_Tigre Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Using the ziploc freezer bags. Seemless from the freezer to storage. 3

Then stacked up on a bookshelf or industrial style shelving?

Yeah, kinda. Theyre stacked on one humidor cab and they occupy almost all thr leg room under my desk. Most are in cabinets though. Most bags contain several boxes. Ziplock makes 2 gallon and 5 gallon bags.
garbandz Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 I have 5 large storage boxes and a large cabinet with my boxes, and 40 open cabs with working stock. Probably around 125 boxes or so in ziplocks not counting the cabs......... some of us just don't know when to quit............ 1

Got to deal with some Tetris though. 5
Cigar Salute Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 The Boveda - branded "humidor bags" work great initially, but they are WAYYYY over-priced for what they are IMO. Also, the sealing system wears out over time with use, and the way it is attached to the rest of the bag becomes a weak point that comes apart and creates leaks. You're far better off using 2-gallon Ziploc freezer bags. You can buy an entire box of them for what Boveda wants for one of their bags, and you can store just as much. Either will hold 4 dress boxes of Petit Coronas, but my experience has been that the Boveda zips don't hold up nearly as long as they should.... Especially when you consider the absurd price that they cost. 2
baltic445 Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 No reason why it won't work, just, as others have said, buy the good quality freezer bags.
