El Presidente Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 This was a very different Cubana airlines ! Imagine a time when you would receive a certificate as a momento of your flight 1951 certificate commemorating a Cubana Airlines trans Atlantic flight.
Popular Post Fuzz Posted December 12, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 12, 2021 Is that because you were lucky the plane made it across the Atlantic? "Congratulations! You survived!! Here's your certificate to remember the occasion!" 5

JohnS Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 I seem to recall that a flight from Australia to England in the late 1940s was so costly that it was only done by employees on Government business. The were so many stops for re-fueling that the flight would take four days! We forget that the Australian Cricket Team used to take a boat to England to play cricket for 'The Ashes' every 4 years. Also, remember all our relatives who migrated to Australia by boat? (e.g. Australians are very familiar with the term '10-pound Pom'!) Here's a link below to a fun article detailing what flying used to be like in the 1950s and 60s... https://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-advice/flights/what-flying-was-like-in-the-1950s-and-1960s-compared-to-now/news-story/7f8a6666f844a3c504baa36a111f60d6

But now you get your own cubicle with seats that lay down flat like a bed, with unlimited tv and movies to watch. Of course, it depends on which plane you are on, but you can pick your flight based on that if you want. I remember as a little kid in the 70's, my parents made us dress up to go on planes. Why did we do that? Now, I wear the most comfortable clothes I own. 2

Sitting on Spirit airlines as the couple next to you is going to town on some crab legs, smacking lips, and then they accidentally get melted butter on your carry on after the plane hits some turbulence. We'd see a 300% increase in the number of fights on airplanes overnight.

I remember flying up front being like this and I spent 35 years doing this job and enjoying it - just like the passengers did. Sad to see it gone downstream many years ago. From airline service to passengers dressed and behaving like taking out the subway ( or the trash ). Thanks for deregulation. Choices have consequences.... 🙂 Happy to be out.
