Popular Post Ginseng Posted May 6, 2021 Popular Post Posted May 6, 2021 I was going to take advantage of another fair day to work and smoke out back. While rooting around the ready-to-smoke cooler, I realized I had a small box of yard gars that I hadn't dipped into for quite some time. Upon opening the box, I found that the half dozen or so Quintero y Hermano I had in there had developed a comfy crown of mold of the fluffy white variety. This was quite a bit more than I'd seen for awhile but understanding that the mold doesn't affect the flavor or smoking in any detectable way (at least for me) I grabbed a Brevas and a Favoritos and made for the deck. The cigars are as you see here. They are bargain basement corto short filler cigars. Basic and robust, generally devoid of any depth or nuance. The Brevas is a yard gar favorite of mine and I had picked up the short robusto-format Favoritos as a change. The Brevas generally has a flavor reminiscent of basic tobacco mixed in with some garden soil. Rustic doesn't begin to describe it. The Favoritos have a cleaner flavor but a consistent metallic edge. Neither cigar will merit a full-on review but here's the gist. Brevas - Surprisingly rich and sweet! The dirty notes were missing and what was left was very much like smoking straight Connecticut broadleaf. Wow. Very different from fresh. The burn was well behaved, with a medium draw, and the cigar was consistent to the last 3/4" when it just started coming apart at the head and leaving bits of leaf on my lips every time I drew. This little bugger was genuinely enjoyable! Favoritos - Metallic edge all gone. This short and stout delivered medium tobacco, clean and full. More flavorsome than any $3 NC in my view. No harsh edges, no bite...nothing much on the palate, but overall an amiable and good burning little stick. Nice. So if you happen to find any mold on your cigars, as long as they feel about the right humidity for smoking, don't hesitate to give them a swing. To be honest, I didn't even bother to dust off the mold puffs. There was no flavor, aroma, or texture to them and soon enough, they were rubbed off. Cheers! 5
Bolismoker Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 for the price its tough to beat Quintero. I try to always keep some Favoritos around 1
smbauerllc Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 I actually enjoy the favoritos and Tubulares and smoke them fairly often. I think they are pretty good smokes for the price Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

ZigZauer Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 May I ask how many year have the sticks been aged? I never had a Quintero because my friend kept telling me the terrible draw of them. Seems I missed some good stuff.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

KCCubano Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 I have several boxes of Brevas and Londres Extra. For my taste I prefer the Extra as it seems to gain more complexity with age. It may be the strongest of the Quintero line 1

Rarely have bad draw. Maybe they are referring to the Panatela's?
smbauerllc Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 I've actually never had an issue with mold developing while in my care. Have received a fairly small amount of ones with some mold from the vendor, but that's it. Actually haven't even gotten any moldy ones from any vendors in quite a while. SmokyFontaine Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 But like, why wouldn't you want to clean the mold off? That's like dropping a cookie, seeing it now has pet hair on it, and eating the whole thing just because! Haha. 1
