Frinkiac7 Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 I went through a big format phase about 10-12 years ago and grabbed a lot of biggies that I tried a few of and then buried deep in my humidors. I have occasionally revisited over the years, but realistically it's tough to block 90+ minutes to sit and fully enjoy a DC. Coupled with being in a climate that maybe gives you four good smoking months a year, and you're quite limited. I pulled out my 2009 SLR DC cab not too long ago and these guys are not looking too shabby. Several of them had slightly cracked feet even back when I got the box (which I attribute to a vendor issue), and other than a little deterioration of the bands, they look as good as they ever did. I remember a video review or two that Rob and Ken did, probably at least a good ten years ago, where they tried these SLRs and the reviews were positive. I still remember Ken commenting about the "stone fruits!" I feel bad for neglecting them for ten years -- is it time to start smoking them in earnest? Should I get a group of friends together this summer and force us to work through the box on weekend evenings? How much more life do these have, properly stored? 3
Popular Post JohnS Posted April 18, 2021 Popular Post Posted April 18, 2021 If I told you that a 50 cab of 2009 Saint Luis Rey Double Coronas would probably command a $US1400 to $US1700 price on Bond Roberts currently, would that affect your question? 5 5
Ginseng Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 I have smoked from an AEP Mar 07 cab over the last year and they have been solid if unremarkable. Will probably continue to smoke this cab down to make room. 3
Bagman Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 Plan to smoke one from 2006 tonight. I'll report back. 2
ChanceSchmerr Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 My 2008 SLR DCs have proven rich and delicious last time I lit one up last month. Still, there is legs to go longer if you're not pleased with what you find. 2

Frinkiac7, apparently we did the same thing and for similar reasons, though I do have closer to 6-7 months of climate that's cooperative. I lucked into a pretty nice box of HQ OCT 2007 cab of SLR DCs about ten years ago. I was floored to see JohnS comment, as I had no idea the value of these. I was new to cigars but enjoyed a few singles and had no idea what I was doing. Who am I kidding...I still don't. Checked on the box and it's still looking great. Now I'm motivated to go back and have an official pulse check... 2
Bagman Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 Little more than half way thru my 2006 SLR DC. Wonderful smooth smoke. Very bold flavors given that it is 15 years old. Fruit, cream, chocolate and coffee. Very complex. So you have 3 years to get to my point, and these have the legs to age for many more years. Savor them and enjoy them overtime. Don't smoke them all up this year. 4
anacostiakat Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 I have a NOV05 cab buried somewhere. Have to take a look. 3

The problem is that we are in the middle of winter here in MN and the idea of sitting outside smoking an entire DC at the moment is a bit of a tough proposition! 1 1
