Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure no 1 UEB SEP 19 (L&SRW1)

It opens with a bright acidity, which with others from this I associated with raspberry. However, this is coming off as more of a peach type of stone fruit. Some cream and vanilla come join the party as well. I may catch flak for this but this basically tastes like a good Mag 50. Richness and flavor intensity are high. There’s a touch of cedar with the cream as well. Surprisingly, there’s not that palette coating cocoa as with the first two I had from the box. However, I’m not complaining because this flavor profile is spectacular.

This is a cream bomb! Didn’t see it coming with how this box is progressing but hell yeah! The stone fruit is there yet it’s slipped behind the cream.

More cedar joins the cream and stonefruit. I got caught up in a podcast taking notes and let it go out which brought back in a little harshness. 

The first 2/3's were 95's, the last 1/3 was an 88 but I'm guessing that's just operator error. This one was significantly different than the first 3 from the cab. The first 3 had a dominating cocoa profile (along with raspberry on the first 2), this had no cocoa but tons of the stone fruit and cream. The flavor was rich and the acidity brought a rich, luscious mouthfeel. This box shows how random CC's can be. Same box, slightly lighter and less oily wrapper and a completely different profile that was just as amazing or even more so than the others. This is one of the best boxes in my collection right now, which is pretty mind blowing as Epi 1's just do not have that reputation. I'm wondering if the dark wrappers on Epicures bring fourth much more complexity and flavor, just as I think lighter wrappers do the same for Monte's.

Nice review @Kaptain Karl! Did you dry box this stick or smoke it right out of the humidor? I have a similar age box and I may need to give one a try!

I smoked it right out the cooler! The construction and draw was perfect I don’t think it really needs much of a dry box!
