LGC MDO4 ULA MAR 15 (DDRW)

So I’m not totally sure that this review is allowed.  I personally haven’t seen this cigar since MSU 2017 boxes, but I’m also not certain the stick has been discontinued.  My friend and I were talking about discontinued sticks but then he dropped a bombshell on me - he’s never had a La Gloria cigar.  WELL THAT NEEDED TO BE REMEDIED.  
 

I won’t bury the lede.  This is one of my favorite blends in one one of my favorite sizes (the MDO 2 also counts in both of these respects). I have had very good luck with ULA codes from 13-15.  They are all smoking well.  I also had a 2008 one  recently and found it lacking a bit in dynamism.  So maybe 5-10 years is the sweet spot for these.  

It’s a classic flavor and one that I don’t get from much else.  It’s an overused term but it really feels like an “old school” blend.  Not as expansive as some of the newer blends that I have had but what it does, it does so well.  Leather.  Some fruit but mostly leather.  
Second half ramps up in intensity and smoke volume.  But the characteristics are there.  On a side note, the room note is one of my wife’s favorite.  She says it reminds her of the cigars her grandfather used to smoke (he apparently was a big fancy New York guy who was a member of the Connoisseur’s Humidor Society at Dunhill.  I can only IMAGINE the things he tried.  Well I love this cigar.  Wish I had 20 boxes.  Hope they aren’t discontinued.

To be honest - I know this stick has not fully been discontinued - in the way that upmann and Juan Lopez pc are.  But I haven’t seen any for 3 years.

Great review.  I have a ULA-14 box and a few MSU-17's.  They're all excellent.  Thanks for sharing about your wife's grandfather. What a cool humidor!
