Good story here regarding celebrity spirits. Some of the numbers are eye watering

Ken's favourite, Ron de Jeremy rum isn't on the list. :D

https://www.decanter.com/spirits/celebrity-spirits-which-are-best-445979/

first, very annoyed as on the decanter mailing list and didn't get that one.

in all honesty, i have never tried any of those featured. nor have i tired ron Jeremy, in any sense. always heard great things about the dylan whiskies. and i have stated before that mcconahey (sp?) is the bravest man in america. i am a fan of him so i am sure i'd enjoy his. bravest man because he grew up a redskins (as they were) fan in deepest texas. i can't imagine the floggings he took at school.

seen a lot of celebrity winemakers. and their wines. many are merely publicity and a bit of fun. others are much more serious. sam neill's pinots for example.

i was always amused when a wine from a certain aussie golfer (no names but these days, he may have jumped the shark) appeared very high up in the annual Top 100 of a very popular wine mag, which has a linked cigar mag of which we will not speak. right down the bottom of the Top 100 was another aussie wine from one of our large producers (plenty of aussie wines but i am not worried about the others). it was never public but it was the same wine. the celebrity was ranked so much higher (even though all allegedly tasted blind). in fairness to the golfer, i understand that he was quite involved in the process. the winery put some under his name and some under theirs, which was the deal.

I have a bottle of Aviation Gin. First thing, that cap is not secure! Only thing stopping it from being opened is a little bit of paper tape. I do not see how that passed Australian anti-tampering laws. When I received it, the tape was peeled off on one side. The cap was slightly opened, and gin had leaked out (about 50-100ml had leaked out). Got my money back on that, and I gave the retailer a little blasting (I used to work for them). Taste wise, no bueno. It was hot and had a slightly bitter aftertaste. Not one for a gin & tonic.

‘I really know nothing about gin,’ he told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. ‘If I ran the company for real, it would be on fire.’

That's about the only good thing that gin is for, Mr Reynolds, setting things on fire.

Then there was the AC/DC branded wine, made by Warburn Estate. When they were first released, I got a promotional bottle of the "You Shook Me All Night Long" moscato, direct from the vendor. Definitely lived up to the name on the label, after tasting I couldn't stop shuddering from how awful it was. It was so sweet, I nearly got diabetes from one glass.

Could start a whole new competition for best tag line for Ron Jeremy’s beverage.  Let me know if you’re interested, about 30 just came to mind.

Very interesting article.  Good to see those celebs are finding very easy ways to make piles of money, they deserve it after all.

This stuff is almost entirely nonsense. White spirits especially are a license to print money at broadly accepted retail pricing. If you can get a market share advantage with a celeb, and push the price up too, it’s payday. These products are almost never as good as those created by smaller, highly skilled, and genuinely quality-focused makers.

All fine with me! I don’t want more competition for the really good stuff.
